JD6105E PTO Question

So I am preparing for the new to me Massey mower conditioner and one of the things required is to change the PTO shaft around on my 2013 JD 6105E tractor from 540 to 1000rpm.Per the manual, I removed the keeper ring and pulled the shaft out, cleaned it up, and slid it back in with the 1000 sticking out. Re-installed the keeper. When I was putting the tractor in the shed, with no implement hooked to the PTO, I thought I would turn the PTO (electric switch) on to see how the speed read. In about 3 seconds or so a beeper started going off with an alarm symbol on the dash. The PTO light was out and it was not turning. I sbut it off and tried it again, with the same outcome. I then switched back to 540 and same thing.
I read the manual front to back and couldn't find anything on this, but I have a hunch that if the PTO shaft doesn't sense drag, it may just sound an alarm and shut itself off. I can't think that I ever engaged the PTO with nothing on the shaft. Does anyone know if this would be correct? Worried there is something wrong with the 1000 as I have never used it before, but 540 seemed to do the same. Any thoughts? Thanks

I have been around a 6400 and 6420, an as I recall the PTO will run without a load. Probably should connect an implement and see what happens, does the shaft even turn at first?

Is wiring intact on PTO solenoid (above and to the right of the PTO shaft, as I recall) and to the PTO shaft speed sensor (ahead of the PTO shaft)?

Go to page 50D-4 in your manual. You have to enter your pto speed and set it. Roll mode switch and turn signal switch are used to set the PTO speeds
Thinking that should do it for you.

Just a note that I started looking and found that a wire on the PTO speed sensor was cut into. I'm thinking possibly a rat chewed it, but its hard to tell, it looks cut. Soldered it back together and all is well. PTO was not sensing movement and shutting itself off. Thanks for the thoughts. Bob
