Round Baling

Most were changing $10.00 just to bale hay in the win row, didnt matter 4x4 or 5x4. I expect the prices will be higher this year. Fuel, twine/net and labour cost are all up. So dont be too shocked if you are asked $15.00. Some guys also wont come and bale unless the hay has been raked into a decent win row. Driving around for two hours to bale up a field of hay that would only take one hour if it had been raked is crazy

I've been paying $10 per bale. Of course, that is just for the baling itself. That is not including mowing and raking or swathing, and moving bales off the feild. I do all else, except the actual baling myself.

I'm going to make a notation here. I think the guy I hire to do this, is a touch cheap. I'm sure anyone else locally would be higher, if I had to get somebody else. I've hired this same guy (and his son) for many years. And, ... we haven't negotiated any price adjustment for this year (fuel and inflation). Not that there would be any negotiating. That would just be a matter of him telling me he's going up a couple bucks, and me telling him to come on over anyways.
This guy also lives close by, and I am probably one his preferred customers. Some of his other customers can't count bales, or horse around getting him paid.

I might add, that getting a guy to show up to bale hay when you need them to, is huge! Especially on alfalfa hay. A guy that won't show up when you need him to, or not be there when he said he would, will just ruin your hay. Alfalfa can get to dry to bale, if you don't bale it when it's tuff (it'll lose all of its leaves). And of course dry un-baled hay getting rained on is not good, no matter what kind of hay. Nothing worse than a baler guy that won't show up. You can puncture wound around with a no show guy on other things such painting your house, or spraying your pasture. But you just can't deal with a no show guy, when it comes to baling hay.

Im going to charge $28-$30 here if theres any to do. Most of
the fields I do are dry land and weve had one two inch rain
since last August. Tony

Is that with a JD 375 string? I charge $20 for people on my road...close by neighbors to CRB their hay and my baler has a pressure gauge and I have a new pressure regulator and with 3000 PSI they come out solid...great value for the owner. I can barely float the front end on my 3000.
