Could have been bad!

My G John Deere is parked nose first under the open lean-to of my shop and the step to get on it is in the back. I just happened to work on something on the left side of it when I noticed a birds nest on the manifold (which is directly under the gas tank). Had I got on from the back of the tractor and started it, I would have never noticed it was there. Had to re-home the nest - hope it works out for the birds.

I had that on my 300U once. Saw it smoking when I was cutting hay. You have to have a screw driver to get the bolts out of the hood to remove it and it was sitting next to the gas tank. Fortunately it wasn't much of a nest when it happened and didn't do anything.

On a camping trip to Colorado once, the 71 C10 was parked a couple days.

Started it up, grass and pine needles blew out the AC vents!

Opened the hood, all up under the air cleaner was packed with rat nests! Enough it could have easily jammed the throttle open!

Last year I got rained on in my old denim chore jacket. Hung it up over the clothesline to drip & dry. Kind of forgot it for a couple days. When I went to get it to toss it in the wash a little house wren flew out of one of the side pockets. She had already moved in, built a nest & had eggs. Just left it there for them, they raised their brood and I got my old jacket back.

A robin built a nest on top of the door opener in my shop. Apparently the chain caught the nest and drug it into the lamp housing breaking the bulb and setting the nest on fire. Right above my mustang convertible. Son seen it first and jumped in the car and backed it out, I grabbed the water hose and gave it a shot and the fire was out. Mad robin hen swooping in and out, I gave her a shot of water too. And a good cursing to go with. If I'd have backed out and left my shop would have burnt down.

A few years ago I used my Super M and 4 bottom plow to plow my mother in law's 1/2 acre garden. The entire time I was plowing I was dive bombed by an irate robin.

When I put the tractor away in the shed the robin was still after me. Only after I shut it down did my wife notice a nest tucked atop the Christmas tree valve. And in the nest were 3 eggs.

A week or so later 3 chicks were observed in the nest. The next day the chicks were gone - a late night snack for a raccoon I suspect.

I've had them build nests on top of the manifold and between the radiator and grill. Last night I was pulling the Farmall M in after mowing and it was dark enough I had to turn the headlights on.
When I pulled the noisy tractor into the shed a bird, I think it was a Phoebe, flew past my head out into the night. I'll go out there later and see if I can spot the nest. It must be up in the rafter above where the tractor is parked. It's that time of year. A few days ago I saw a fledgling robin sitting beneath a tree in my front yard.

Phoebes Have been nesting on the rafters in my tractor shed for several years. Our cat got up there one year and ripped up the nest but they made another a short distance away. kinda neat to watch them as they grow. Mom will sit on the nest when I walk in and as long as I am quite and move slow she sits right there, all I can see is her little head looking out.

several years ago massey ferguson had a hood design that attracted birds and the dealership I worked had four customer tractors catch fire due to bird nests on top of the manifold. damage varied, but I don't remember any total losses

Mouse nest next to the exhaust manifold, which is under the gas tank, on my Ferguson TO-35. There was another inside the clutch housing made with nylon carpet.
