Finally got CCA treated lumber from Menards

I had to special order lumber to repair implement trailer.
Lowes and Neuhaus said CCA was outlawed in 2003.
I guess Menards is selling illegal

Lumber.

Better send Barney to arrest them.
I got a 2x6x8 and a 2x6x12 for $31 tax included. Not that bad considering inflation.

Not illegal, those other stores just do not want to hand it.
Or the clerk you talked to just wanted to not go thru the hassle of ordering it in.

I thought you found a source of sawmill oak instead?

The tag also mentions : basement studs.

Twenty years ago I help build a walkout basement constructed of that CCA wood.

Was 2x6 or 2x8's on 12 inch centers with 3/4 inch plywood and then extra thick visqueen, not stapled.

Was in SW Michigan, just getting popular at that time.

Not totally illegal, just banned in certain uses. And those uses are the target market for Lowes and most others. Playgrounds, backyard decks etc. You will note your board tags specify ag and industrial use, and it's the good stuff, .60 level treatment.

CCA is illegal for residential use making it a specialty wood.
Big box stores buy wood on the corporate level by the train load.
I'm surprised Menards was willing to deal in a 2 board order.
That is usually a local mom and pop store deal.

Type C of CCA is a general catch all grade of treatment.
Type A has better fungal chemical retention and type B has more Arsenic for bugs like termites.

0.40 and 0.60 retention CCA is made for ground contact or moist areas.
0.60 has the added feature of it is treated well enough it will take salt water splash.
For your trailer type C 0.60 is a good choice and should last a long time.
If this were a below ground application you would be better getting type A or B in .080 retention.

Our local store that only sells CCA treated lumber has only #1 lumber in 0.80 and 2.50 retention levels.
0.80 is good for below grade in fresh water applications and 2.50 is for below grade salt water applications.
Their prices are in line with big box store treated lumber because it is cheaper to make CCA treated lumber.
Big box store MCA lumber uses high levels of Copper Azole to treat lumber rather than Copper and Arsenic.
Copper Azole with its high levels of Copper is more expensive.

I was lucky to find 0.60.
Menards is my go to store 3 miles away. Only have 2 other stores, lowes and neuhaus.

I think if you do more research, you will find Menards is the parent company of many companies. In terre haute is a place that makes trusses and concrete blocks, Menards owns them.
They are about a mile from the store in the north end of the county.

They have several locations that make trusses and block.

Also roll and cut steel roofing, I believe that is all done in Wisconsin.

As George experienced they are pretty good with special orders, get it in a reasonable amount of time, and things the smaller outfits cant get. They do get you on returns of special orders with a hefty restocking fee, but I cant blame them too much for that.

I special ordered a door.
The door wasn't a fiberglass door as I wanted.
I know the manager. He always stops and talks to me..

He made it right.. got total refund..

Sometimes it's good to know the people you are doing business with.
