Another farm accident

Heard of an elderly farmer (in his 80s) in our area that was brush hogging with a Farmall H & pull type brush hog the other day. He fell off and the brush hog got him. Never got anything more about it but they said it was possible that he may have had a heart attack causing it, but I hope he at least passed out before going off. Prayers for his family.

A few weeks ago a 67 year old guy accidently started his tractor in a shed and it ran over him. It went out thru a wall and started to climb a tree. The tires dug holes in the ground before it stopped. The front tires were off the ground about 2 feet.

It can happen quick. I had a close call a couple of years ago. Soon as I could I spliced in a kill switch to the ignition wire. Its a switch with a lanyard like on a boat. The lanyard attachs to my boot lace so if I fall off it shuts down the tractor.

Brush hogging with tractors where the operator mounts from the rear is pretty dangerous and Farmalls are about the worst as most didn't have fenders either.I bought a Case 500 diesel years ago that the brush hog drive shaft broke loose and beat the driver to death.
