Metallic noise coming from the engine

I recently had my 1959 IH 240 utility tractor overhauled. I have only run the engine for 7 hours so far. Today I was using it with a bush hog and now I have a metallic knocking noise coming from the left side of the tractor near the area of the generator. Any ideas on what maybe causing the noise?

Take the fan belt loose or even better take it off and fire it up. If the noise stops you have a problem with the generator or water pump.

If it makes noise with old's idea, use a stethescope, or dowel about 30 inches long pressed against your ear to hear if it is high in the block, or low near the pan. Jim

Check the front pulley bolt too.
