To all my milking friends, a question.
Here on my MASSIVE Jersey dairy ( 4 ) I use a DeLaval vacuum pump that I'm guesstimating is a mid 40's era pump.
A #73 model, Ser# 6307071

anybody
a) have knowledge of this pump,
2) perhaps have an old manual ( I've scoured the internet, no luck ),
#) Know what is appropriate for oil in this type of vane pump,
d) have a recommendation of where I might look for parts?

The kind gentleman at DeLaval smiled, rolled his eyes, and said huh?

E-mail is open
Any insights appreciated.

BTW, it is working fine, but I would like to flush and refill the reservoir...

Blessings, Fr. Bob

I have a whole box full of DeLavel magazines, came from an old creamery. Might have some info in them. Guess I need to start looking for them.

Tractor Supply: Dairyland Vacuum pump oil 1405243.

I ran gallons of that stuff through my DeLaval 75 when I used it for my maple pipeline setup.

Diesel fuel makes a good flush.

I have no idea about parts. At this time you might have better luck asking on one of the maple syrup forums, small time sugarmakers will use almost anything for vacuum.

Is this a DeLaval rotary pump? You can still buy vacuum pump oil. I milk with a DeLaval rotary pump from the late 70s. pump oil is readily available from DeLaval dealers or Bomatic dealers here. My area still has quite a few dairy farms, once 50 years ago there was close to 1,000 with in 50 mile drive, so there is plenty of old equipment still laying around. Much of this older equipment has been picked up by dairy goat and dairy sheep farms because it is cheap and available, so local suppliers still carry vacuum pump oil . Good choice milking Jerseys, great little cows.

Are you using buckets type milkers, DeLaval or Surge?

I have one. Use it twice a day for my small dairy as well (4-8 cows) I put an ad out that I was looking for such and got 2. At least I have parts. I but vacuum pump oil from delaval dealer.

I have an old DeLaval milking machine engine. It has a vertical cylinder with a water tank for
cooling as well as for washing up afterwards. My barn has a small hole in the wall where the
exhaust came out. There are charcoal burns around the edges. Lucky it didn't catch fire?
Electricity didn't come through until the later 1930's.
