Might be a lot of reasons to sell quickly, debt, taxes, etc. No reason not to sell right away,I've told the wife to do the same thing with all my stuff.Call the auctioneer and for what is left call my buddy at the scrap yard.

Exactly!

Sell quick before the next great depression sets in and people have to use their extra cash to buy food.

The family might be sick and tired of dealing with the public and the maintenance of the museam, etc.

And settlement of the estate/will might just dictate a requirement to sell it all.

P.S.
The museum is open Thursdays Fridays and Saturdays only thru the summer, but the place will close July 30th.

Have been wanting to go to that museum. Had a friend who wintered down there and worked or volunteered there for something to do for many years, he loved the place. I guess I will have to find another museum to go to.

I was there 3 years ago. Second to none.

I think there may be international trucks, possibly a SCOUT. Jerry you better check it out.
Close to Leesburg where my sisters live on lake Eustis.

It's a good day drive from Tennessee for an old man. Jerry could do it in a day.

Or plans may have already been in the works for reasons that were not public knowledge.

Ive told my wife when I go funeral is at 10:00, auction starts at 12:00. At least then there might be a few people that show up to my funeral.

RBnWa, probably not cheap to keep up the museum. Lights heat water, property taxes(could have been a non-profit, I dnk). It was probably is not a revenue positive operation. It was one mans dream, now he is gone and the ESTATE must be settled. Will the sale garner a boat load of money, probably, but probably not as much as the years and years worth of purchases restorations and the upkeep. Consider the inflation factor from just the last year a huge loss. Had a International/Farmall museum sell out in western Ia not long ago. Not enough tractor fans to run a profitable museum. Again though, the estate must be settled. gobble

Ive been to the museum AWESOME ......A couple years back I spent a lot of time with Stew at a Tractor Show in High Springs Florida and had a great time. They come they go its where were all headed

With what tractors of all sizes are bringing, strike while the iron is hot. In 2014 when I went in for a tricky double bypass in my arm, I sat down with the wife, daughters and their husbands. Wrote a list of what needed to be gone, haul the cattle and hogs to the sale barn. Have a buddy list the two teams of horses and harness. Then rent out everything but the back pasture so the grandkids could keep their ponies and 4H calves. It was all planned. Be enough handwringing wanted them to know not to keep stuff because it was mine. Liquidate and move on with their lives. Thankfully they didn't have to, but be careful of poisonous words to the existing family.

Met him several years ago not sure but think I actually sold him one tractor. Have been there two times. I am not carried away with the folks that are holding the auction but will probably make a quick trip down. Might be something there I can afford.

Auction poster I see doesnt give a location.

Wasnt there a Red museum that closed and sold a year ago?

You know this to be a fact?

Or are you being judgmental of people you know nothing about?

If you want, I could ask my sister, who lives 20 miles away, to go there and check out IH trucks and have her send pics?

I know they have IH trucks. Don't remember if they have a Scout.

I'm betting they have everything made by IH.

Just wondering -

Did he have an IH Garand display?

Did they have the IH kitchen appliances?

Maybe a Travelall?

The weird stuff really interests me - been around IH tractors my whole life - seeing another one is no big thrill. Heard about the Garands most of my life but never seen one in person.

I recall all he had was tractors, crawlers and trucks.

All IH.

They also had a tractor pull the day I went.

My one and only tractor pull. It was neat to see.

That is a harsh, baseless statement. Sad.

I agree. Completely baseless, and probably dead wrong.

Even if it is, so what? Should they be forced to keep the collection together and the museum running for YOUR entertainment and enjoyment?

RB, what's an acceptable amount of "deterioration time" to you? In other words how long should they be forced to hang on to everything before it's "acceptable" to sell?

Should his kids be forced to drop everything, abandon their own dreams and careers and lives and families, to continue his? Just because it's inconvenient for YOU?

Auction date was prolly set months ago. John simply failed to reach his best by date. Give his heirs some slack.

Lyon County KS used to have an antique tractor pull as part of the fair. It was a low key affair but was entertaining. The newest tractors there that I recall were early 1960s - but that was 20 years ago so they may have had a 40 year old limit.

This place had yesterday's tractors and professional pullers.

They had two lanes and non stop pulling in many different classes. There was very little time between pulls.

John T the wife has always said when I was gone she was going to have the funeral at 11 o'clock the graveside at noon and the auction would begin at 1:00 Dress casual barbeque will be served. All jokes aside Stew was a great guy and had one heck of a collection. But if know one in the family wants to keep the museum open then yes sell it all to people who will treasure it. Just my opinion for what ever that's worth.

I was issued an IH Garand M-1 rifle for basic training in 1957 at FT. Jackson,S.C. I carried/kept it for a few weeks and then we went to the rifle range. After a few minutes on the rifle range and not being able to even hit the frame of the pop up targets, even by the good Sgt he sent me to see the ordanace guy. He looked it over and found that the rifling in the barrel was mostly gone from wear. They issued me another M-1 at that point.

I didn't mean to be a hard a$$. I said that because I've seen kids that couldn't get the property ready to sell fast enough. They fuss and fight over what was left to them then end up in court. Some never talk to each other again. Sad. We all want money and need money to live. RB

Everyone handles stuff differently. I don't see anything wrong with getting started on what you have to do. A friend's mom passed last year and he was the executor. Two weeks after entering probate he had a stroke and passed. On the other hand mom passed a year and a half ago and we aren't halfway through. There just isn't a right or wrong way to do this.

If Paquette died he was not very old .The only thing I did not like was each tractor had an unoriginal sticker that said Stews Stuff Other than that wonderful museum Hate to see it close down, Some unusual IH stuff.

I'm sure he enjoyed his tractors and equipment like we all do. All things we treasure, accumulate, store up in this life can bring us much enjoyment but they are fleeting. The real treasure is beyond this earth & is what I hope this man is now experiencing.

My folks had everything legally in their last will what was to go to who and a binding statement added that if there were any disagreements it would all go to designated charities.
