oil change and filter

Hi everyone. I don't know when the oil/filter was changed last in my John Deere H, so I'm thinking about doing this. I did some research on line and came up with different weight of oils. Some used a straight 30 weight, others Shell Rotella 15-40 and some 10w-30. I live in the northeast and driving this tractor would be very seasonal. May-Oct. I don't have electric start either. Just wondering if I have to add something to the oil. Where do you buy your oil filters?? I have a JD dealer about 15 minutes from me. I haven't checked on line yet. I looked at some youtube videos and have yet to figure out where the filter is or how to add new oil. I think it's 4.7 quarts with a filter. I do know how to check the oil level though. I'll also check my shop manual but looked through it quickly and didn't see anything about an oil change or filter. Thanks for any advice, Nicholas C.

Sounds like you need an owner's manual in addition to your shop manual.
Never worked on an H, but if it's like the others, the oil filter comes out the bottom. Should be either a fill cap or a breather on the top side to remove to put the oil in.

I would agree. I previously ordered some manuals which I thought I needed, but didn't have the necessary info in them. I researched and ordered two more last night, one of which is an owners manual. Hopefully, I'll be good to go, Nicholas C.
