Been hard to find, much less buy, feeder pigs this year. Usually I buy them around $50 each, this year they are $150-200. With corn over $8 I just don't see spending that. So picked up this boar and going to start farrowing My own.

At the sale barn now looking to pick up some more bargains.

I'm having the same issue with feeder pigs. I thought about raising my own also. I don't think it would be to hard to sell the extras, exept that would mean dealing with people, and that ain't what it used to be.

Yeah, right now it is time for 4H'ers to be buying pigs so the price artificially goes up. Like the poultry industry the pork industry is near vertical integration. So there are less available than what we (50-60 year olds) are used to seeing.

Find some who sells show pigs and see if they have runts or ones they can't sell to show. Bought a couple this spring that way for 30 bucks each.
