NOS Auto-lite Armature

My 1950 Willys quit charging. It is still 6V and running its original generator. I found the armature was grounded. Not wanting to convert to 12V, I called the local auto electric. Owner said he had a place in Pennsylvania that might have one, so he called them. Lo and behold, 2 days later I had a minty fresh OE NOS armature, dated 12-47. It's amazing how much of this stuff is still out there.

Thats awesome! I tried to find an armature for my Prestolite starter and struck out. Ended up having to send the old one out and have it rewound. Still waiting to get it back.

It is great when things work out like that. Several months ago the Delco-Remy starter on the pony motor on my 1951 JD model R tractor blew up according to the shop where I took it. Needed a new armature and the guy did some research and found a new one out of state somewhere. Will it last another 70 years? Well, I won' be around to find out.

You see parts like that turn up on ebay, flea markets or sitting on the shelf of a starter/generator shop in tattered cardboard. If only the thing could talk.

There is a company that has every thing you could ever need for a willys. It is neat you found a oem item. It should last another 70 years.
