John Deere 6600 combine

On a 6600 combine with the diesel engine , if the fuel pump by the tank is bad , do you need pressure to the injector pump or can you put a can of fuel up by the engine to try and start it ?, it hasn't run in 10 years

You can try the can, but setting unused for TEN years I doubt it will run. The Stanadyne/Roosa injection pump will probably have stuck internal parts like most I see in for repair lately that have not run for awhile.

Injection pump should easily pull fuel from a container up at engine level. Normally they will continue to run if the electric pump fails unless run out of fuel or some other reason air gets in the system. MAY be little less power under heavy load, tho.

I would at least give it some gravity flow, like a repurposed lawn mower tank suspended above the pump.

But have a plan to smother it just in case it fires and has a runaway!
