New Idea 5512 Mower/Conditioner

I have been thinking about converting from a self propelled dual knife swather to a pull type disc cutter. I have narrowed it down to the Massey 1372 12' or possibly a New Idea 5512. Both are the Hydra Swing style, both 12'. The Massey is a 2007 model and the NI is a 2004. There is a good dealer for both (same dealer) in my backyard. The NI is considerably cheaper, but looks to be in the same condition.
My question is if anyone here has had experience with a New Idea disc machine? Probably both made in Hesston, KS I would assume, and possibly mostly out of the same parts. They look pretty similar. Thanks for any help or advice - Bob

my brother and another neighbor both have had 5512s for several years. I think they are both happy with them, as they are not ones to hold back if a cotter pin or something fails unexpectedly. I used my brother's machine briefly when my mower went down, thought it was well built. One difference in my CIH 8312 is 2 separate drive belts for the cutbar and conditioner, where the 5512 runs everything off one belt.

How can there be a New Idea when New Idea closed there doors in I think 1999, one year before the 100th anivericty celebration with the prommis at that time to reopen the factort. I had machinery at the celebration. And still have the wood plack for that.

When the factory in Coldwater, OH was closed the production of New Idea equipment moved to Hesston, KS and the New Idea brand name wasn't retired until sometime around 2007. A lot of the Hesston-designed hay tools were branded as New Idea (such as the 5512 that is being discussed here) as well as Hesston/AGCO. Even the self-propelled windrowers were branded as New Idea for a number of years although relatively few were actually produced. And, one of the New Idea machines is in a way still around - the current-production Massey Ferguson 1359 mower/conditioner is largely the same machine as the old 5209 that has been around for decades.

Those were never sold here in Ohio then. Lucky to even find a N I Dealer for parts for what was already here when they closed Coldwater.
