Doesn't make sense to me

The city contractor is working on the other side of the street from my house. At quitting time they park the tractors on plastic. I guess this is incase
oil drips on the ground ( we can't have drips on the ground, that is a big no no) I would think if a tractor is leaking it would be when it's running,
not parked. What do I know? Stan

It happens quite often during the summer, that we see a dotted line of dead or dieing grass on the greens at the golf course from a hydraulic leak on the greens mower. The grass recovers quickly. A pool of oil on the other hand will leave a patch of dead grass for quite awhile.

I broke a hydraulic line once and spilled quite a bit of oil. I picked up as much as I could but there was still quite a bit left. The grass has now come back like everywhere else!

I worked in a mine once where you couldnt pressure wash a piece of gear without containment to collect the water that ran off. Supposedly because of the grease that would get washed off. I discovered that day that apparently none of the gallons of grease that went through the automatic greaser daily ever fell off the machine

When the coop gas station had a really really bad tank leak a couple decades ago (I dont recall if that meant a gallon or 100 gallons, you know).

The approved disposal was to bag up the dirt affected in big planting bags, and then spread it on the neighboring field.

They left the bags in the mix.....

Spreading the mess on the surface would let the sun and the microbes in the top few inches take care of it all.

So, the solution to spilled petroleum is to spread it on the surface of a field.

I was pretty ------ about the plastic bags that blew onto my farm from this, but they were no problem to the officials, as they had the right boxes checked on their official forums.

've never heard of doing that before. Very thoughtful.

This reminds me, years ago there was a Harley rider that had an old cycle and he got teased about it. While it was parked (on pavement) one of the guys poured a little puddle of oil under it. That would get your attention!

Hoofer, most of us prefer oil fee water flowing into our wells.

Do you really want me to tell you?

Well you (those concerned about droplets of oil) wont have to worry about it much longer, Joe nnalert and the green energy squad will have everything on batteries, including our military vehicles. So hopefully the tanks wont go dead while the fossil fuel burning Russian MiG fighters are firing their anti-tank weapons. Even better news for the college kids, nnalert wants to sign executive order to forgive student loan debt; now they can go buy a Tesla.

(quoted from post at 05:00:42 04/28/22) Ive seen a place or two where it runs out of the ground like a spring.

Yeah, I saw that too every week at the start of the "Beverly Hillbillies" show, LOL.

Its symbolism over substance. It is intended to portray to the passer-by that fossil fuel powered equipment is filthy and disgusting; hopefully pushing the masses toward green energy.

Drip sheet takes seconds and lets you do your morning inspection for problems easier, an angry Karen posting pictures online take hours or days to fix or could get the job shut down.

EXACTLY! At work, the blackening system had water running 24/7 to dilute the product to a safe level. Otherwise the town would call them and complain about the high level of the pollution coming from the plant.

We had a railroad tank car leaking pine oil .the epa made the railroad pick all the oil and the ground that was saturated by the oil up.another thing that comes from the ground so how can it pollute the ground?

I double dog dare you to get your jug of used motor oil.
Take it across the street and pour it out under the oil pan.

Be sure to take pictures of the results when the show up for work the next morning.

A couple million tons of heavy oil was spilled into the sea in WWII. All those ships that were sunk or damaged and tankers were a special prize to sink.
Where is all that oil now?
The earth heals itself and feel good legislation is for Karens.

What sort of plastic sheet do they use, or isn't it windy there?

Where I'm at 9 days out of ten it's so windy a plastic sheet or light tarp on the ground under a tractor would be flapping and snapping like a flag in a stiff breeze!

City people do it all the time. They cant stand to see grass clippings in their yard, but a big stinky rotting pile of yard waste in my ditch across the street is ok with them. Anywhere that there is no municipal leaf pickup, they just off-load the stuff anywhere they can. In someone elses yard.

Bill, that is one of the things that they tell you in fire service HAZMAT training. Immediately after that they tell you that it is true for some substances but POSITIVELY NOT FOR ALL. You didn't mean to leave that off did you?

For those of us that say 'no problem' since it originated in the ground anyways, I suggest you do a bit of research on where most crude oil we drill for is actually located ..... just sayin' ..... every little bit helps and our planet needs all the help we can give it.

GOOD Mel--How have you and the family doing?? I have been working on the motorcycle I am building and a pulling tractor I bought. Sounds like the weather out your way is even worse than ours!! Cold and rainy here--heard blizzards your way. I would hate to be a cow-calf rancher this year!!!-Take care---Tee

We've just been getting a lot of wind. No snow or rain but maybe this weekend they say. I've been laying round the house the last 2 weeks. i had a new knee put in 2 weeks ago today. Doing pretty good so far. Started on the cane last week and every once in awhile I take off without it for a short jog. What's the new puller going to be? Green I hope and yea, the right green..

Have you been chasing the Mrs. around the kitchen table???? Wait a minute--Done of my business!!

That may be, but the tractor is sitting on it holding it down where it counts.

In picking up tads of news here and there, some time ago I read somewhere that digging on the beaches in New England had and will uncover some of the oil from all the ship sinkings off our E. Coast during the war.

In the world healing itself, it just healed itself....covered it with beach sand.

For anyone wondering what those jetties protruding out into open water along beaches its to do just that. As eddy/rip tide currents run along and parallel to the beach, these jetties cause the water to stop and have to change direction. When that happens, sand particles picked up along the beach are deposited. Aerial views of jetties that have been in place for an extended length of time will show you just how the sand has stacked up behind them.

Bill, diluting a poison and sending it down steam to the Gulf of Mexico, down wind, or into the water supply does nothing to neutralize the poison, it just moves it to where it eventually becomes someone else's problem to deal with.

The solution to pollution is dilution is just a rationalization, like the people who dump worn out tires in road ditches or leave unwanted dogs by farmsteads because they is too lazy or too cheap to disposing of them properly.
