OT - AC Fan Motor

I apologize in advance for the obscurity of this one, but you folks have a wealth of knowledge. My portable AC has gotten loud. It seems one of the roller bearings in the condenser fan motor is making the noise.

I've attached pics of the fan motor identification plate, the rotor, and the part number on one of the bearings. Apparently, the motor is a Zhongshan Broad-Ocean Motor Co. model YDK80-4A (YDK-085L42843-01). And the part number on the bearing is 6201 ZZ.

I'd like to find a replacement motor to drop in. With my limited Googling ability, I've not managed to find one. Anyone got any pointers on that? Perhaps you might know a knowledgeable supplier I could contact?

Absent finding the whole motor, I have located sources for the bearing (though none in stock right now). But I have only basic tools. So, removing and replacing the bearing (the lower one) might prove challenging. Any pointers on that?

Any other more general ideas are welcome, too.

Thanks,

Neil

That is a very common bearing, look some more and you'll find them. Very cheap on Ebay if you can wait.

I don't recognize the motor, but it may be out there somewhere.

Dremel will take the bearings off piece by piece. Be careful grinding. Vice or careful driving on with a hammer and sleeve (socket) on the inner race only.

Yes, I think I can get the bearing. How does one go about pressing the old bearing off and the new bearing on?

Thanks again,

Neil

the first thing i would do if the brg. is not rough is drill a tiny hole in the shield and grease it with a needle. i have saved many brgs. that way, on my combines and machinery. if its rough and u think it has to be changed then just use a puller and pull them off. pretty straight forward.

Is the problem bearing tight and smooth?? If yes, it my only need grease?? Pop off the bearing seal, clean inside and fill a good quality synthetic grease. Put the seal back on.. Give it a try??

npowell,

Soak the bearing in oil overnight. Who knows you might get lucky.

At 80 watts must be a window unit,

Guido.

I'd just put new bearings in it and forget about greaseing them never had much luck getting the seal back in or grease by the seal with needles or not.

Welcome,
.
Something caused the original bearing to go bad.

Just for the heck of it, I would apply white grease on both sides of the bearing to keep the moisture and dirt out of it.

If that is rust on the motor shaft, the motor is in a high moisture area. Grease may not help, what can it hurt?
