Tractor Interest POLL

OK. So, if you could start all over tomorrow from scratch, on a new tractor collection, what tractor would be of your most interest and desire to have in it???

I'm not talking about your favorite one you got now. Or best one you ever sold. Or your one from Grandpa that has the most sentimental value, and you'll never get rid of. Or the most handiest one you ever drove. Etc.

I'm talking about, a complete start from scratch, do over. What tractor would be at the top of your list, to put into a brand new collection.

This place is getting More yuppi oriented every day. Time changes everything, and the guys I admired and learned good farming practices and repair techniques are now in the cemetery. When I found this board 20 yrs. ago the virtues and values everyone had was heartwarming. Now it seems like a You Tube video sorting through commercials to get to the brain trust.

That's easy..White 160

If I had to start over with a different brand than I have now I would go with Oliver, probably a 2255. But my most desired tractor of all time would be an Aultman-Taylor 30-60 which is just a dream because I could never afford one.

I'm happy with all the tractors I have. No do over.
I don't collect tractors, I use what I have.

Id like to try either a 1850 Oliver , and a D17 AC from the later series. If I could get a hold of a Cockshutt 40 or 50 , I would take advantage of that opportunity also. I have had the opportunity to use a lot of different IH MF and Case tractors, also a few Ford and Fiat built tractors wearing different brand badges.

Oliver 550 / White 2/44, would like one as just a tractor and one as a TLB.

Very handy size for my little bit of property, but big enough to move things.

The one tractor I would like to climb aboard is an old Case. They are rare around here but when I was really young our buss driver/local farmer had one. He would plow for other folks also. I've never seen prettier furrows than he made with that Case and a set of disk plows.

For use my 960 and 950 fords and cubs are perfect for us. My wife says her brand new Massey Ferguson backhoe is the best thing she has bought. From a 'I want one' stand point a Ford offset. 501. Or dream big. Minneapolis Moline udlx!!

That's not true at all. Lots of great problem solvers on here...rrlund, diesel tech,j.schweibert, Texas Jim, Bern just to name a few. As for a tractor, I love my Oliver 1750. Would like all the four digits if I could.

Oooh, too many at the top of my list.....anyone of the big gas engine tractors from the 1920s....MH 555 with front wheel drive....Cockshutt 580(570 super) ....930 Case....AC 220....Im still dreaming...

I stopped watching the news and my mood improved dramatically. I subscribe to the 1440. Its less than a 10 minute read but offers links if you want to read further
Suppressed to be an accumulation of many news sources with no bias. 5 to 10 minutes and I'm all caught up with much less aggravation. The news itself is annoying I agree but as the saying goes (biblical actually) ... Nothing new under the sun...

I only have 4 acres and have pretty much lost interest in old tractors due to lack of funds, lack of space and lack of things to use them for.

However...

If money were no object, there are two tractors I'd LOVE to play with:

A John Deere R/80/820/830 with pup start and an Oliver 70.

Of course I'd also need a 450 or 550 class truck and a gooseneck to haul the John Deere around with as I'd barely have room to turn it around on my little patch and I'd have to haul it somewhere to actually use it hard enough to get it warmed up.

I have a Cockshutt 30- A 35 Deluxe and a 570 Diesel. All great tractors, but if I'm going to dream, I dream Big. It has to Be a Minneapolis Moline UDLX. I'd love to drive through town in one of those pulling a manure spreader full of people.

Give me the complete four digit Oliver line up.....and to make it even better they would all have a dealer sticker from our old Oliver dealer.

Some of the older Cat tractors like the early D models with the diesel engines. We have a D-4 diesel with a 4G serial number. Grandpa bought it in the late 30's new and an Oliver 4 bottom with it. So I guess it would be some of the bigger ones like a D-5,6,8 not real intersetd in the 7's. A grader would be a nice ad to the list also.

An offset Ford 501 or 2000. MM R with the factory cab that they made for rural mail carriers . I better stop or I will need another building .

while I bleed JD green . An Oliver with a Detroit Diesel does perk my interest. Also the fact that Cockshutt that merged with Oliver was Canadian .

As long as we are dreaming--I will dream BIG. A Deere 8020 sold for $350,000 at Mecums auction last March! The previous high was $194,000 in 2021. The best of both of my worlds--Deere and Detroit--One sold in 2004 for $15,000--Can we say inflation on here???---Tee

Prices are sure getting crazy on the 8020's...A late neighbor had an 8020 that he hauled in from Kansas about 45 years ago..He quit farming in the early 80's and sold out just before times got tough....I dont remember it bringing much on the auction(maybe 3-5K) but the next time it changed hands privately I heard that it sold for $15-20,000...

If money was no object, then all the special cases, golden demos, black knights, spirit oof 76, and the white/black 94 series.

A UDLX Minneapolis Moline. I had a chance at one, original, kind of ruff one for 26,000. and couldn't afford it. I can't find the picture of it right now.

Sold my older Ford tractors and the ones I have are working tractors
That said Ive always wanted a 1950 Oliver with the 4-53 Detroit, but a Ford 7710 series II 2wd with cab, dual power and triple remotes is my desired tractor for my operation

I'm not seeing how this thread topic, is out of line with the forum title (TRACTOR TALK)!!!

As far as I am concerned, your reply here, can be tossed in with all the Yyuppie You Tube commercial related stuff you yourself are referring to.

I can understand being bummed out from a bad day of watching the news. But why bring that here? And as a rant in the first reply of somebody else's post that quite honestly, is not even out of line with the forum title. Nothing in the title suggests that all content posted must be about repair and farming practices.

I agree with ya. That there is a lot of, well, just (filler material) threads posted both here and in TALES. Some of it doesn't match up with forum titles, and some of it does. And some people seem to be posting it everyday. The everyday posters that post content I don't wish to look at, I just use thier threads as a bookmark to separate the days. Scroll past thier thread, knowing I am scrolling into a new previous 24 hr period. And go on.

I look into the site near everyday. And often reply to posts of interest. But rarely, post a thread of my own. Was a little confused about your rant here, and with in my thread. Perhaps I still am. Especially since I am NOT an everyday thread poster of garbage material. Or, look at what I did yesterday non-sense.

Anyways. My two cents.

And, I for one, am not going to expect things in the news to get any better, for a real long time.

(quoted from post at 23:58:42 04/20/22) I'm happy with all the tractors I have. No do over.
I don't collect tractors, I use what I have.

This is me, too. About the most I can say is that I would work a little harder to have a couple additional tractors:

a Ford N-series
a Case VAC
a Case 700- or 800 series

Good choice!!I had a row crop and sold it but still have my standard tread...Needs restoration...

Like some of the others here, I do not collect, but rather keep old iron to use. For practical purposes on a small hay operation, an IH 350 Diesel would be near perfect for my needs. Or a MF 135 diesel.

If money and practicality was no object, then one of those steamers would be a lot of fun. I am not sure I am up to the maintenance they require and I can't imagine pulling a baler with one.

I have an Old style 88 and I love it. It pulls the swather every year. It is a sweet ride and purrs.

If I had it to do all over again, I would still have to start with an A Farmall.
