Put the new shoes on The Boys yesterday and trimmed the other 2 getting ready for work...lol! I usually have the shoes pulled in the late fall and then put on new ones in the spring. You can see the size of. Their feet by the comparison to the farriers hand. This young man is an apprentice who is a second year vet student at Kansas State college. Note the borrium they put on the bottom of the shoes for traction, but mainly for making the shoes last longer.
These guys are youngsters at just 4yo. So far I have harrowed their manure piles down with them and aslo pulled the manure spreader. They are getting used to working. Bob

I trimmed allot of hoofs on our show cattle back in the day growing up but know nothing about horses or the care of their hoofs. What got my attention was how your guy worked on them while they just stood there watching. You sure wouldn't do that with our cattle. You had to pretty much immobilize them to work on their feet. Nice looking pair you have there as I've seen your posts in the past showing them working.

I think I have shared the video of me harrowing with them. The second video is on the Amish Farm where they came from. It is in Millersburg, OH. I have a video of them spreading manure, but for some reason it won't load. I'll try to get some more. Thanks for the nice comments. It's hard not to just jump on a tractor and do things, but sometimes I make myself slow down and use horses. I hope to have a mowing day for horses around the first of July. I have a nice 15 acre rectangle field of brome/prairie hay that I would like to cut with horses. There are several guys around that will come, weather permitting. - Bob

Here is the spreader video, I think. This was the first time on a spreader, and they make a lot of banging and clanging. Plus it was somewhat windy. Was a little nerve wracking for the first 20 or 30 yards but they settled down and we got through it.
