solenoid for ih 660

(quoted from post at 09:38:24 04/15/22) Can you get a solenoid from autozone that will work on an ih 660? Thanks for any help.

Gas would be a Standard Ignition SS-200, diesel would likely be a Standard Ignition SS-213, what ever auto parts store you go to should be able to get those or cross the numbers to the brand they sell.

The gas starter solenoid is the same as a 70's Chevy.

Previous owner of my MTA diesel put on a starter with a solenoid actuator. solenoid went bad and could not find a replacement. Took it to my local VERY good starter, generator repair shop and they rebuilt it--works great. Gary.

Pull the black plastic cap off the end. The terminal post that feeds the lug into the starter case will need its nut removed the one the battery cable connects to will come with it. Now look at the back side of the batter cable terminal the washer hits against inside. If it is burned way down take it loose and turn it 180 degrees and tighten it back down. Sand the arcing area around the outside of the washer with some emery cloth. If the washer is burned real bad it can be turned over by removing the spring retainer clip. The terminal that stuck through for the starter lug usually does not burn as bad because it connects first, and since it has a wire connection running in to the pull in coil it cannot be turned as easily. Reassemble and put it back on start it up and go on with life happy as a clam.

If it looks the same, it will work.

What is it doing?

A hard clunk and sometimes no crank, it's the solenoid.

If silent, no response, it's brushes, or low battery, bad connection, neutral switch, etc.

Starter solenoid on my Farmall M came off a 1963 Ford pickup truck.
