Plastic parts have made me money : ) if there is any good out of plastic parts you replace the hole part and never try to seal a old plastic part. I have never seen one of those bleed green. The first one of those that came in the shop I opened the truck looking for the engine. My wife had a 73 super beetle I would not work on it we dated for 7 years when we married my first move was to sell it : )

I think a 73 was the first year they used a alternator it was always a constant problem. Just before I sold it I opened the engine cover at night the spark plug wires were flashing like a Christmas tree so I did put plug wires on it. That must have had something to do with the alt the guy I sold it to never had issues with the alt.

At one time they were chick magnets.

Hey Hobo, There is a good video on South Main Auto about a Nissan dealer that quoted thousands of dollars for a new wiring harness for a Nissan car. This guy hunts it down and determined it was the alternator. Very interesting.

And you complain about buying tractors of foreign ownership like CaseIH being owned by Fiat. Never thought to much of a Volkswagen.

Had 57 slide top with no engine and without front fenders given to me. Got it patched enough for a work car for 2 years. Winter driving required Carharts and a windshield ice scraper for inside.

I got it free and my nephew needed a senior project. They are a pos bad it needed a clutch when I got it its a 2000$ job to do a clutch a a shop thats how got it the shops wouldnt take the job. Ive got my eye on an 88 series

I thin,k 88 series are good. They still do not have a nice side console. Why did they make the shifters so low?
But you got solid front end (unlike formers IH), strong three point with solide sway limiters like JD had 15 years before. Very strong engine, and strong transmission.

My nephew took a Kawasaki Motorcycle and painted JD green. Neat seat too.
Wish I could find a pic of his JD motorcycle.

George .... I believe it was usually the #3 cylinder and valves that overheated ..... one of the left side ones if my memory is still working, does that sound right to you. Just didn't get as much cooling air as the other three.

Decided to try some jb weld . Built up the inside surface of the oriing groove then built up the outside where it was broken away . Still going to order the part Napa has it for 20$ but its a week out
