This a JD 401C with backhoe. It's got plenty of oil leaks, needs bucket pin repair, engine has maybe 1000 hours on it, start and runs great. There are plenty of welds, worn bushings, etc.

It's ugly.

How would you market, and what would you ask?

Within the last month there was a similar condition Case 580 circa 1985-90 that sold for just under 4,000 dollars at an area consignment auction. Given what you have said an auction would make the most sense for selling yours unless a steep commission is involved.

Id sell it on purplewave.com. They seem to get top dollar on a lot of stuff. Well at least more than I want to pay. There is a modest cost to the seller. However there is a 10% buyers premium.

If you are selling and want to get decent money fix it first.
That is if time is in your favour.
If buying it tell the guy how many hours of labour and cost of parts it will cost and offer what you think you want to pay.
Auction is a great way to get the best dollar in the condition it is in as people have different ideas of value and often 2 people get caught up on bidding.
Around here online auction is selling way high compared to pre sickness live ever did. Im talking 50% higher.

If anyone started telling me how much to fix and cost to fix my machine I would quickly tell them to hit the road..Might also tell them to not let the door knob hit them in the azz!!!!!!Would not sell to those types for any Prise!!! They could make an offer BSFORE running down my equipment.
