Retread tractor tires

Tire condition and age with process has a lot to do with success in recaps. Good year will not cap a casing older than about 3 years. I used to run caps on the drives for 20 years with good success. Sure I would lose on in a set but with 1500 still left over compared to 3000 back then for a set. I figured if I lost one for any reason I was still money ahead. Biggest reason I found for tires not lasting was inflation. Slight over inflation was better than under inflation of any kind. I put 110-120 in them depending on the tire. Trailer wanted 120 truck was 110. Right on the tire. H load range on trailer G on truck. Trailer had spread axles with 255 70 22.5's truck was 11 24.5 How they will stand up for front tractor tires I have no idea. I just put old truck tires on front for mine. Carry the weight well and last fine. Never tried capping them.

Back in the USAF days, an instructor asked if we thought recap tires were a good thing to use. We said no, but he countered with that the carcass of the tire had proven it's self to be durable. Whereas the new tire was an unknown variable. To each his own.

To bad you are so far away, I have 4 LT245/75 R16 that I took of my pickup that you can have for free.
As far as retreads go my father used to run them as you say they were half price of new. Some of them found their way on to various tractors , wagons and other assorted farm implements. The one draw back was they didn't preform well in the summer time heat on trucks or tractors, as the combined heat from highway driving and high summer temperature would cause the tread to come off, you always had to have a good grip on the steering wheel, they don't give any warning. You would hear aloud bang, like a12 gauge shot gun going off, at the same time as one corner of the vehicle dropped and the fight began to keep control of the vehicle. LOL

Few other sizes as well. And some irrigation quality traction tires as well.

Didnt know anyone recapped ag tires. Interesting.
