So those bad welds on that Steiger, weren't even wire welds,at that time,if that tractor was built in Fargo, that had to been made in the early,to mid 70's, although the frames were made of heavy sheet metal,I know bad welds are a turn off, to me too! Just curious of the time frame that Steiger was built ?? Thanks

Its true the welding on those early Steigers was rough. Looks like 6011 run by a Century buzz box. Its what you call crude but effective. They are still a better put together tractor than many of the other shop built tractors of that era.

It is surprising to me how many of the early Steigers are still around. There are some that call Bonanzaville home and another group that live at WMSTR in Rollag, MN.

For anybody that makes it to Fargo, Bonanzaville also has a collection of early Bobcat loaders.

If you had played softball with any welders that worked there like I did then you could probably see why the welds would be rough especially after a softball/beer night. LOL Tom in Mn

The series I Steigers came out in 1969/70 so this 2200 was made right at that time. Steiger didnt have a factory when they first started making tractors in Fargo. They used several garages and buildings. Really somewhat crude facilities. The factory didnt get put up into around 74

Being in the pipefitting industry a lot of those old welders didnt smooth out until after lunch and then they got their highball and the welds sure look good.

If you compare them to farmer made tractors they aren't too bad. But two other tractors of that era Wanger and Versatile both had much better finish. Course Versatile had the advantage of an actual factory. I'm not bashing the Steiger family either. We have a Steiger and I think they made the best 4x4 of the late 70s and 80s. Its just that they had some humble beginnings.
