Always wondered why a lot of old firetrucks had open cabs.
Must have been tough to see when driving through heavy rain or snow.
A small town in our county had an open cab truck in the 40's up into the 60's.
An old GMC with the pump on the front.
Great truck anyway.

when i first joined our local fire dept in 1963 we had 3 open cab firetrucks==36 and 38 dodges and 47 wardlafrance

I was told the open cabs enabled the driver to observe the smoke in the sky to find the source of the fire.

Makes sense in clear weather but not in snow or heavy rain.
