We have what I call a wood hornet here.it bores holes in the frame and trim boards under my porch.it will not sting or bite but is somewhat destructive.does anyone know how to construct a trap for these pests?

Plenty of them on Utube. Easy to make your own. The ones that bore (females) will sting. The ones that hover around the holes are males. They don't sting or bore and have a white spot on their head. I used to spray my overhangs with a light mix of malathion but using traps now.

No trap.
I tried many things to stop them from drilling holes.
I finally covered wood with aluminum.
I have an aluminum break. Covered windows, door frames, anything they were drilling,
and facial.
It took bees about 2 years to understand I won.

Not out of this world , was down in those parts last spring to pick up a truck. If I find myself coming that way I will certainly remember to contact you. I make a very simple one out of a 4.5 inch block of wood and pint fruit jar and folks seem to like them as they work.

I make fly traps out of plastic juice bottles. Cut the top funnel off and put it back on upside down. Put a little juice in for bait.

Youtube has several videos on boring bee traps. Easy to build and they must be hung in the proper locations.
I have some on my wooden structures and they do work. If you are not able to build them, let me know and I will
build them and send them to you.

They are just starting to come into this area. I bought two of the glass jar and wood block traps last spring. The one that I hung in the sun in the barn door opening caught a half dozen.

This house had a cobbled up enclosed porch on it when we bought it, always seemed to have a carpenter ant flying around. One day I spotted one slipping into a small hole between the upper trim boards so blasted the hole with brake clean. They were dropping out fast so I stuck my shop vac. hose over the hole and got a unbelievable amount of them things.

A few years later we pulled the porch off and built a garage there and there was a lot of damage in that wall. Haven't seen one since though.
