I don't want rail rims anymore

My rail rims ( 5 rails ) are severely rusted and I don't need that type. I already have new tubes and good 14.9 x 28 tires. I have a 1975 Ford 4000 3cyl gas. I don't no which 3L engine I have. It's not a row tractor. This is probably too much information but I have had a heck of a time locating a center wheel that is 28"has a 8 bolt pattern , 8" from bolt center to center with a 5 1/2" center hole. I can find a 6" center hole and it says it also fits a MF. The center hole might be 5 9/16" but it's certainly not 6. Will the 6" work since its bigger or will the extra space make it move. I mean it's going to be bolted to the loop rim and to the axle so will it work. Also the 8 holes look really big compared to the picture of the one I found that might work. I'm going to run it without fluid in the tires because all I do is Bush hog with it.

Your best bet is a Tractor Salvage yard. Tires already mounted on rims with the correct centers would be what i'd
be looking for. Google salvage yards in your area.

Brand new 28 rims are available on this website. Info indicates they will fit a Ford 4000 with a 3 cyl engine. $152 each plus shipping.

Yes but my wheels won't attach to those rims and I can't find wheels with the correct size center hole that do fit that rim.

You should always mention your tractor is
the SU derivative of the 4000 .
28 rims are easy to find. The hard part
will be finding the centers. Most 28 6
loop rims use a center with 8 on 6 lug nut
pattern. A 4000 has 8 on 8 lug pattern.

I tried to call Tony's tractors in oregon but all numbers are disconnected?????. He has 5 rail spinouts for $290. For that price I would stay with rails, but everyone else is $450+ too much for me. I guess I will try some yards.

The center hole is 5 1/2" and others that I find are too small or too big. It's looking like I'm going to have to stay with the rails. It won't be long until the fields will need mowing. Thank you all for your time and comments.

Will all 8 on 8 lug patterns have a 5 and 1/2" center hole. I've found 8 on 8 with 6" hole but not 5 and 1/2". Where will I find 8 on 8 with 5.5" center hole?

Any center will fit most any rim with a welder and some patience. My wifes 961 has spiral power adjust centers welded to loop rims. One was like that when we bought the tractor. I did the other to match.

Oh ok. Guess I could find someone to do it.

Tony retired and closed the business around the end of last year, beginning of this year.

Oh ok Tnks for the info

SU means Special Utility.
It was the same engine and chassis as an
All Purpose 4000 but had the lighter 3000
front end on it.
First photo shows an SU. Is that the front
end you have?
Second photo shows an AP.
The SUs were lower profile and the only
ones that used 14.9x28 tires.
As I said earlier, centers for your SU will
be somewhat hard to find. If you can buy
the rail rims for $290 each that is the
route I would go. Would save you a lot of
searching and hassle in the long run.
Those are Very good, reliable, simple to
work on, easy to get parts for old
tractors.

Yes it looks like the first one but no SU sticker.
It's a 75 and the Ford 4000 decal is different also. I'm trying to figure out how to attach a photo. It may work and it may not.If. photo comes up you will see that she's not fancy but unbelievably reliable. Starts and runs every time, no leaks nothing. We've had her for 10+ yrs. My husband got her from a work associate for 5K with a real nice Bush hog brand mower. She's outside always. No issues just choke her a little and bam she's a purrin' like a kitten. He put a new muffler and and two batteries but that's it until the tire went low on one side and now she's down and were scraping to get her going. It will all work out. I really appreciate everyone's input.

I'm trying but we live way in the boonies and it just stays on "continuing uploads". I like living out here but the service is very bad. I'll try tomorrow when im in town. God bless y'all.

4000SU is a solid little tractor with plenty of power, Ive had mine for nearly 15 years
Rear rims are a bit harder to find but not impossible, that 28 inch 8 on 8 rim was used on the 4000SU, 4600SU, 2910, 3910, 4610SU, 3930 and some 4630s
The non power adjust rim from a 3930 would be the some common rim to find

If you could find a machine shop with a plasma table or a water jet, you could have them cut you out a set of wheel centers from something like 3/4" plate steel. Just chamfer the holes for the lug nuts.

Otherwise you are at the mercy of the tractor salvage yards to find what you need, unless you go to a different size wheel and tire. Maybe 30's are easier to find?

Well, our tires look great and we just ordered new tubes. He told me to go ahead and order the 5 rail. It's soooo expensive and shipping is $105 to boot but he said to do it so I did today. He has never put rail rims on before so
Tips are welcome.
