Most times a chicken hen will do a better job with ducklings than a hen duck

One time we had 12 ducklings on our lake. Momma duck would
teach them how to swim. It would have been healthier for the
ducklings if they never learned how to swim.
One by one, we had fewer ducklings. I would never believe that a
large mouth bass could swallow a duckling.

So a hen would have been a better mother...

We set duck eggs under a Banty and she hatched them out. Proud she was. In the pig pasture there was a small pond and soon after hatch on one of their journeys those webbed juveniles found that pond. That Banty was madder than a wet hen!
