Newbie looking for info on Case 600 combine

Hello,
I recently purchased a case 600 combine. It runs but needs a lot of love. I have ample mechanic/fabrication experience, but zero old tractor experience.
My goal is to get her in working order and harvest small hobby plots of oats, alfalfa seed, and possibly beans.
First question: will this machine harvest all three?
I got the combine for a song so my budget is good.
All and any links to parts and schematics would be greatly appreciated. Or any advice good too.
Thanks
Bean

It sure should, so does it have a straight cut, on it, meaning does it have a sickle and guards, reel, on it,But with alfalfa seed you might need to put some duct tape on the elevator door's and other cracks!!
You might need a a owner manual !!

A very highly regarded combine amongst Case folks. Go to the Case forum, I know of at least one that is using one....gobble

Not a 600 but we use our Case A6 for such harvesting:

The 600 is an excellent small combine. I
use an 1160, it's newer and bigger
brother. Your 600 will combine all those
crops very well. If it has the spike tooth
cylinder its gets tought to combine corn.
Otherwise it's well suited for all the
crops you mention whether it has rub bar
or spike tooth cylinder. It will get you a
cleaner sample than most any other machine
built, past or present.

Hey Bean welcome to YT. I do not know what a spike tooth cylinder will do in
Alfalfa seed but with our conventional rasp bar cylinder
machines namely an IH 403 I will tell you this. When
we cut the seed it came in the bin in sort of a flowery
bud that looked sort of like granola cereal. We would
dump that in a wagon maybe a foot or less deep. Then
shovel it around in there daily to dry it down, probably
a few weeks. Then we ran it through an old IH belt
driven hammer mill. I do not think the tractor was
running much above idle, but enough to get the broken
down hulls and seed up the blower pipe into the dust
cyclone and down onto another trailer. Then that was
run through the Clipper ..fanning mill.. seed cleaner to
produce the final product. Not a 100 percent sure on
this but I think it was cut still in the bud and a little
green to reduce shatter out of the seed. I am sure you
probably will, but I would suggest plenty of YouTube
study on this before you proceed. Where is your location I know where a possible parts machine is located.

I think Alfalfa with a spike cylinder will not thrash good or completely out of the pod. We always used a rasp bar for all but white beans. Spike was used on White beans. This was on an Allis 66 and Gleaner E.

We ran a Case 600 for many years harvesting wheat and dry beans. Compared to the ancient Cockshutt it replaced, the 600 is a tough, reliable machine!

I can't help you on the specific machine, but I can tell you that my feed dealer would be overjoyed if I was get a small combine and produce seed like Medium Red Clover, Timothy, Orchard grass, even oats! Prices are through the roof for him. There may be some $$$ in it for you if you can do it.

Have no idea how your machine is made but I do know on a early MF or JD they say you should be able to harvest small seeds like the alfala BUT with the rasp bar cylinder you have to have a PERFECT cylinder and concave seet to be able to put the filler bars in between the rasp bars and also between thr concave bars to cover the holes in the concave betweern thw bars the seed is thrashed out with. Learned the hard way on red clover that is slightly bigger than alfalfa the hard way 50 years ago. The ONLY machine that will do a good job on those small seeds is the old AC 60 and 66 or 72 combines and that is the reason they were called all crop. Were a couple of pull type Case combines and ONE self propelled Case combine in this area in the past 70 vears so where would rven be aboe to find the small seed parts for that machine. A spike tooth cylinder would be even worse that a rasp bar cylinder to harvest the alfalfa with. Then where would you find a screen with small enough holes to handle the grass seed has the adjustable screen will not tighten up enough for the grass seed.
