Does the bottom oil control ring show out the bottom of block in the
crankcase a smidge? Working on a 1950 John Deere A.

This is normal on some engines. I really don't know on a John Deere A but I've seen this on large compresser station engines. When I asked this same question years ago at work it seemed nobody had ever noticed.
 
If the ring gap was positioned in that area, might that be a potential issue do you think? As opposed to being on the opposite side of the piston.
