There havent been very many sales this year but I finally found one to attend..Yesterday I attended a sale 140 miles away located just north of Caney,Kansas...It was a beautiful sunny day with temps in the low 70's..The auctioneer was from Gardner,Kansas and he did a great job..The sale started at 10 AM and was done at 12:30 PM..I grabbed a $4.00 cheeseburger as I left the sale and it was the best sale burger I have ever had..Even though I was a long way from home I knew several that were in attendance...The seller seemed to be in to everything...He just getting rid of some stuff he no longer needed or wanted..He once had a museum.

I wish items like those were that cheap here in Va, I went to auction weeks ago, had a 400D been sitting out without exhaust covered, oil pan full of water oil and antifreeze, and I thought I could get it for about $500, I bid up to $750 and it sold for $800, and it was trash, I just wanted parts. That farmall B, and H with loader were cheap. I would have bid on that Loadstar, it was nice truck. Thanks for posting

cvphoto120761.jpg

The sellers GP John Deere which wasnt on the sale bill...My Pontiac is sitting by a tree in the background...It got 1100 miles put on it this past week exploring-etc.

Going home I stopped at the Little House On The Prairie Museum just east of Wayside,KS...The Ingalls family lived on this very piece of property for a couple of years around 1869-70...Of course none of these buildings are original to the property but are original to the area...The Sunny Side school was moved from 4 miles to the northwest..Lots of people were there visiting.
cvphoto120771.jpg

The District #60 pentagon shaped rock school near Cherryvale,KS..I took old school and church pictures both coming and going to the sale.

cvphoto120773.jpg

The District #65 one room school near Mound Valley,KS..Its getting a pretty good crack in it.
cvphoto120774.jpg

The now unused Chouteau Chapel near Sycamore,KS..

You guys are right, they aren't Cubs....I'm running on very little sleep for the past week and its telling...I screwed these posts up so many times that it wasnt funny but
never got it all corrected.

Most of the collectors in my area are getting old and have stopped buying..Lots have passed in the past 5-10 years..We have very few young people that are in the tractor hobby so old tractors that need work sell poorly..

You have a great sense of photo taking of those historic buildings. Thanks for them. Do you have to do some extra driving to find these, or do you have them in mind ahead of your trip?

Thanks for the pictures and auction results. I'm seeing the same thing as you in my area as far as old tractor values for the same reason. Now there are occasionally restored tractors for sale for a lot less than it would take to restore them now, often due to the owners passing away. Not a big demand for common older tractors in need of much work.

I do lots of research and sometimes plan out the trip knowing in advance where lots of these old schools and churches are located at..On Monday I spent the day in Barry County MO leaving home before 6 AM on practically no sleep..I ended up taking 30 plus pictures of old schools and churches....It was 80 miles to the first picture and I ended up driving 444 miles total....It was a very long but fun day..I'm still beat from that trip...The Barry County Historical Society has done a wonderful job on telling whats left and the locations-etc...Some counties have done little or nothing.

However, theres not much information on some counties especially in Kansas...I use online old late 1800's-early 1900 plat books for the locations of the schools-churches-etc...I use Google Earth and check out some of the locations..Lots of times its just hit and miss on finding any..Some days I drive 300 miles and only have 5-6 pictures for my efforts...Other times I have 10-20 pictures.

This is the Hailey one room school located east of Cassville in the Hailey community of Barry County MO..Its down a hollow and there are no real good roads to it...One time I was practically driving in a creek bed at 5-10 mph over rocks-washouts...If a big rain came the water could be 6-8 ft deep..Southern and eastern Barry County is very rugged
country thats located in the Mark Twain National Forest....Kansas is much easier to get around in..

cvphoto120786.jpg

The Brock one room school SW of Shell Knob,MO...The road to it was decent but look how close the school is to it...It was just a horse path in the old days..

thanks for the tour, Blaine. that pentagon shaped school sure was unique. Must have been a couple real loose cannons on the school design committee.

I certainly admire your tenacity to do this work, or I guess we could consider it fun. I would like to get down to SW Missouri someday to visit Powell. A famous pedal steel guitar player was from Powell, Tom Brumley by name, now deceased. He played with the Buck Owens band in the 1960s. Son of Albert Brumley, a famous writer of gospel songs. Tom went on to have a Branson show later in life and I think his sons still perform at Branson.

I would also like to thank you for sharing the auction reports. And I cant thank you enough for recording, photographically, the schools and churches you are able to find. I have seen many of your pics and suspect you have many more not shared. So a big Thank You for preserving this part of our history. Keep up the good work. Godspeed.

Thank for taking us along with you. I'll never get to go to the two states on your trip. I really enjoy the old building pictures.

Great report and photos, looks like a fun sale. I especially like the old schoolhouses, used to drive out to Kansas City then points west. I have a few photos of the schoolhouses out in the country, film camera so that was awhile ago. If you find yourself in Belton, MO theres a great barbecue place called Odens, some of the best food Ive ever eaten. Specialty is burnt ends. Thanks for the report and photos. Gerrit

Ignore folks like this. There are critics everywhere. I know I enjoyed the photos and the pricing info. Would have loved to get that cat dozer!

Folks like who? Only thing I've seen that's even remotely contrary was a couple of people gently correcting him on his use of the word "Cub."

The post was deleted. Someone objected to the accuracy of the descriptions.

For my part I know how much time goes into posting photos and adding captions or descriptions. Especially since this site often fights back at any efforts to post things. It's why I don't even try--or just limit it to one or two photos.

Anyway, the criticism was unwarranted and I hope there will be future sale reports.

Gerrit

There was one post that took the OP to task about his descriptions in a very unfriendly way. That post , as mentioned, is gone now.

I was one of the other ones who mentioned that those tractors were B's and not Cubs. I meant no offense--just wanted to correct the record. If my post offended anyone, I apologize. I do appreciate the efforts of the OP to post all these pictures and sale results. Hope he continues to do so.

Thank you for the posts, pictures, and sale info. Wow, it looks like it was a beautiful day - blue sky everywhere!
