Adolph Casimir Ochs started a brick factory in Springfield Minnesota. While there were others brick factories, Ochs saw the opportunity to expand the market in agriculture.

Pa said the clay brick silos were nasty in the winter as the south exposure never warmed due to the hollow core unlike the stave silo. Made for a bigger mess come spring thaw.
