How many tractors you bought to farm with, have you sold

I have bought , then used on my farm, and later sold or traded off, 10 tractors. MH 101 Twin Power, 430 Case, 530 Case , 584 IH, 585 CaseIH, 885 CaseIH with cab, 5640 Ford with loader , cab and 4wd, 5140 CaseIH, with loader cab and 4wd and a Kubota MX 100 loader cab and 4 wheel drive also a IH M. All of these tractors I had bought for work on the farm, not just to flip. Some had been bought new, others I was the second owner, while still others I had no idea on their history. All were either sold private or traded in on new tractors/equipment. I forgot I also had a IH Super A with shufflers for market gardening. How many tractors have you had in the farm, that have since gone down the road? Wish you had kept some. I wish I had kept both my 430-530 Case tractors

In modern times other than one tractor everything else has stayed once purchased. The one tractor was a nightmare that did go and while the others needed attention from time to time they have been generally reliable. Just not a lot of money to upgrade for the sake of more modern amenities. The newest tractor here is a 1985 JD 4250 Power Shift.

The main ones I use here on the farm I will not put a price tag on but I have bought a bunch over the years and used them then sold them. My dad would sell anything. Everything had a price. More than once I found one I really liked and was using only to have him sell it. He gave me a 4010 diesel when I started farming and one day someone wanted me to put a price on it. I refused and my dad chewed me out saying make some money and buy something else. I still have that 4010.I did have a 3010 diesel that always seemed to have something wrong with it. I bought a low hour 3020 gas and put the 3010 engine in it then sold the 3010. I always wondered where it went and if finally I might have had all the problems fixed? Tom

My best guess is maybe 75 or so I bought, farmed at least some with, then sold, mostly back in the seventies and eighties...Many of them I wish I had back, but I had to make a living when I quit a good paying engineering job and started farming lol

I don't farm but have 5 tractors that I use, no show girls.. just working girls.. Never sold any.
This is my only new tractor. I bought it at the end on 2019. I always wanted a

cab and an air conditioned lawn mower.

I'm lucky to use it 50 hours a year after selling a rental property.

I have no plans to sell it.. It was nice to push snow this year.
Of course I had to build a pole for it.
Glad I had the pole barn built before the price of lumber jumped..
I feel like a winner..

Well, I buy them to learn something. When I learn that I don't like them very much,
I sell them or give them to nephews and brother. JD H, JD M. Allis WD, Allis WD45, MF 20, 3 Allis CA's,
Two Fordson Majors, Ford 3400. Fordson Dexta. IH Cub Cadet 1450. Cockshutt 40PD, Case RC, Case L.
I also bought and sold 3 Doodlebugs. I stripped a Ford 2000 and provided the parts to build up
a Ford 4000 school tractor for my club. I don't know how I had the energy. Don't now. I just wanted
projects for my retirement years. Some I resold almost immediately. Some I bought on behalf of friends.
A lot of guys can't bring themselves to buy at auction, but they will buy it from you after they've had
time to think about it.
Some were sold to fellow collectors in our tractor club. Didn't hear any complaints. My biggest negative,
was the clumsy ergonomics. Some tractors are very hard to get on and off without breaking some bones. The
Minneapolis JetStar 3 that I used for snowplowing for 34 years, I guess I liked that one quite a lot.
Have a few little Cases and Allis to pass on yet. (Before I do.) For personal use, I'm all Orange diesel.
It's been fun. Hasn't cost much all said and done.

Only one......bought a JD 2755 with 620 loader 23 years ago, used it for 20 years and 4500 hours. When the cattle left, it was no longer needed....used for cleaning out the barns and filling silo.....so I sold it. Bought a brand new 2955 in 1991, still have it and a JD 2120. My dad bought it new in 1973 and I bought it from him in 1981. The rest of them...over a dozen...we're collector or fun tractors that I used a bit for entertainment and to see if they worked well. The list is...
5 various MH 55s
3 various MH 44s, one a Special, still have it
MH Challenger
MH 333
MH 33
IH H
IH Farmall 504
JD 630....still have it
Case D
....and likely a few more I don't remember. Got a lead on a super nice super rare Massey Ferguson 150 row crop diesel....should I?

....I have a light variant of the disease my dad had....he probably bought fixed used and sold over 50 on this side of the pond....he still owns the wood burning Fordson I keep for him and a Case C on steel in Holland. He's been gone over 10 years, so I guess these are family heirlooms....!

Sold & replaced 2 tractors since I started farming for myself in 1983!
Replaced a Ford 4000 SoS diesel with a 5610 Ford 8 speed diesel.
Replaced a Ford 3000 SoS gas with a Ford 3910 8 speed diesel. Added a Ford 5610-2 8 speed diesel with dual power to replace MIL's Kubota when she gave it to her grandson.

I know....it's the only row crop diesel I have seen...new rubber and in real nice shape...fully optioned as well. Look on kijiji under MF 150....a lot closer to you than me....but 8k? I dunno....

Only have had one sold, and my dad did that. I was an English 60's model Ford 3000. With 2 more on the farm, I still don't understand why he sold it. Just for reference he sold while I was away on a job or he would never had the chance. :)

All the rest are still here on the farm.

The BIGGEST mistake I have made hands down was on a 4440. I had two - one with duals that pulled the 455 drill and one with singles that I sprayed with. When I upgraded to a 1760 planter and FWA tractor to pull it I traded the one with singles in. I went back the next day to buy it back and it was already sold. Never should have done that. I did buy a nice IH to replace it, but still a mistake its one of the few tractors to ever leave.

I've sold Ford 8000,Ford 6000,AC 190XT,AC D19,AC WD45,Long 910,UTB 800,more I can't think of.For some reason people always seem to want to buy the tractor I'm using.

I regretted selling . Namely My 1st Tractor M-JD,a 1010 MF compact and a 530 Case diesel, Glad I sold a 3010 JD, a 210MF compact tractor and WD Allis . Traded to tired 430 Case diesels for a 730 diesel that was barn kept since new . The rest of trades and sales were the right thing to do for All parties involved .The 430s' would work hard all day and might use a qt of oil .(Shucks my 4020 did that with a new overhaul} . traded for a square baler a very worn out 930 CASE Diesel that started in 20 degree temps with manifold heat very well . Practically and Lovingly give away a DC Case ADWF, SC and VAC to my nephews .

Only tractor I ever sold, was a Farmall Regular. Bought it as a restore project that needed (was missing) a lot of original parts, and engine was free. Due to lack of personally having any parts for it, I resold it to another guy who had some of his own resources. He had it running in a couple days.

The rest have stayed right here at the farm.

The 44XX was popular around here. I remember when they came out with the new Soundguard Cab and fresh styling, figured that one day I would have one of those beauties. It seems the 44 series was big enough to do the big jobs around here where farms are usually less than a couple hundred acres, but small enough to handle the small ones. When I bought my 4230 with cab in 2005, cosmetically restored, there was a 4430 sitting next to it, also restored. I drove both and didn't need the extra 25 HP plus the hour difference of <4000 hrs vs >10,000 and a couple of K $ difference in price sealed the deal. The 100 hp was plenty for my equipment. Neighbor still farms with a 4430.

None.

Current inventory (in order of acquisition)

Ford 5000
Ford 8n
Massey 398 4WD with loader
1964 Ford 4000 gas (grandpa's)
1969 Ford 4000 diesel (dad's)
Another Ford 5000, but this one has a loader.
Ford 8700

They're not costing me much, and will look good at the estate sale.

On my own farm, just an ih574 diesel. I bought a cih485, low houred with a new loader, to replace it. My Dad and Uncle started with a '48 8n, traded for '50 8n, added '52 8n, then traded the '50 8n for a '53 jubilee with a loader. All new. Then in '56 they traded the jubilee for '55 ih300u with a loader, and added a 61 ih340u in'62. The rest of the equipment that was bought in '48 stayed until the auction in '89, with only a couple of additions. Mark.

I read that in some old service bulletins I have and it says its normal . I guess oil and engine rebuild kits have improved over the years . I dont dump 2 auarte between my 3020 and 4020 in a year
