Scrap prices

Pheew! scrap is high right now in central Ohio. Short iron $350 per long ton. Shredder steel $260 ton. Non magnetic stainless is $1500 per ton. Took a small load in yesterday and came home with $1500. Guy at the yard said get sold what you want to sell as he predicted a big drop soon.

Ya know what that means...........

More out of sight tractors will be off to the scrap yards. Keep your eyes on the road & catch them before they get to the yard !

Been a long time since I've seen it that high.12? 15? years maybe? I had a D6,9U,that the town that owned it had not taken care of it.Pony stuck, engine stuck, trans split,(ice) but virtually no hours. It was a military machine that came from the civil defense.A young guy that was restoring one just loved the undercarriage, and the undamaged sheet metal.I told him he could have it for scrap price. We were guessing $1500 or maybe $2000.I called the scrap guy and he said $4030.and he would pick it up,he knew I could push it on.He said his price was for a straight US ton,not the 2240 pound metric,or gross ton.I think this morning here on the N.H.seacoast it was $170.for #1,and light iron,#2 was $125.

When I went to the scrap yard this morning I thought it was unusual to see so much stainless being prepared. Stainless was everywhere it seamed the hole yard had a pile they were working on.

The price for clean aluminum and clean cast has not quite hit the mark I want to see. I will hold on a bit unless I completely run out of something to do. I do have several cars and one van loaded down with used car parts. 50 to 60 aluminum radiators and 10 are so copper radiators. I have room to store it, it can lay there till I am ready.

SV,

I think there is more to the price of scrap than energy.
It goes back to China. China causing the price of iron ore to go up. Add scrap iron to iron ore, carbon in the form of coke(coal) and you make higher quality steel..

'LAUNCESTON, Australia, Feb 10 (Reuters) - China is once again trying to talk down the price of iron ore

I've been tracking 3 of the world's largest mining companies.
RIO TINTO (my favorite ETF.)
VALE
BHP.

A lot of iron ore comes from Australia..
At one time a lot of US coal from W Va was shipped to China.

Scrap metal prices follow iron ore prices. Both are up.

I have a big stainless steel table, that I will need to put on my trailer to transport it. It is non-magnetic but has steel studs welded to the underside. Will it be worth my while to cut those studs off?
