Reminds me of something my Dad told me, in the late 40s / early 50s the USDA published a pamphlet on How to feed your male & female steers.

My dad had a course at Clemson in the 30's called Feeds and Feeding.
It was taught by a proff named Boar Hog Ritchie.

I took a load of fats in and told the guy weighing them that there heifers but identify as steers. Guess that only works for people as I got paid heifer price.

One of the instructors of an Air Force safe-driving-in-rural-areas-for-city-kids course, at one of the bases in the Dakotas, told his class . . . a couple years ago, the Air Force paid a rancher $10,000 for the loss of his prize breeding steer, which was hit and killed by an Air Force truck.
