Kubota engine swap is complete

Finally got the Kubota diesel engine swap project done this weekend. Had some issues with the parts the machinist made to mount the pulley to the front of the engine. I was worried the engine pulley wasn't strong enough to hold the heavy drive pulley and 3 belts, so I had him add a stub shaft out front for support bearing.

He did make a mistake and the first time the unit was out of round, so I had to take that back and get it fixed which delayed the project a week. But it's in and working now.

Used it to clean the pens yesterday and it ran great. Wish it had a bit more power and I may add a turbo later. But it runs good an works properly. Since it ran good and for a long time it brought to the surface some hydraulic issues I'm going to need to address now, but at least the motor runs and works good.

I wouldn't have been brave enough to tackle a project like that. I have a Clark 610 that needs the wheel bearings tightened up and a new drive belt put on. Have been putting it off for years.

Great job, my brother has a 20 year old Gehl with a Kubota engine, it has been a great machine. The engine has never been touched other than oil and filter changes.

Congratulations. That was one major retrofit job. All done in your toasty warm shop! It's a two cylinder, correct? Would a three cylinder fit in there? What runs the fan, electric, or hydraulic?

It must feel good to be done with that job. Great idea on the support bearing--probably save some headaches in the future. As always good work, Jon. Good luck on the hydraulics. Gary.

Nice work Jon, our tractor club bought a Thomas skid steer a couple of years ago, I'm not sure of the size. They were manufactured in New Brunswick, Canada but are no longer made. One of the club guys has been working on it on and off to get it finished up to use. It originally had Kubota diesel power, someone had flipped it out to a Thermo King reefer unit (same engine apparently). It needed a LOT of work, somebody rode it hard and put it away wet most often ....... here it sits as we bought it in the picture below .....

I get in a tight from time to time and use a machine ship in a nearby town. Like pictured here, their work is superb.....top quality.
