Hyster forklift needs a clutch

A friend of mine has a Hyster xa60 forklift. It has a continental 4 cyl gas flathead engine. The clutch is ground down to the rivets and I need to source parts. I can call the Hyster dealer Monday but was hoping to find an online parts source. There are no numbers on any of the clutch parts. None of my Google searches turned up any leads for a machine that is probably 70 years old. Since continentals were used on many machines, including ag, there has to be some other options. Any one have some sources?

That should be a very basic/generic clutch, most any clutch and brake shop or industrial frictions shop nearby to you or on the net should be able to rebuild it or supply parts

This will not help you until Monday here is a little trick my son who works in plant maintenance told me about. He used it on fork lifts and also for other machine parts like electronic boards, switches many different items he needed to source. Contact Hyster and ask them for a quote by email on the parts you need. Tell them to provide part numbers because you will need them for the PO the company will produce for the parts. Then you have the needed part numbers to search for what is needed through other aftermarket vendors.

Dealers differ in their missions, some cater to the older models, some don't. Aftermarket sources usually have better prices.

Look for some of the online sources that have listings for Hyster and older American made lift trucks.

They may not have a listing for that old of a model, but give them a call Monday. Have all the information you can find ready, clutch diameter, spline count and diameter of the input shaft, type of pressure plate (finger and spring, or diaphragm),release bearing description, measurements. Offer to send pictures.

Chances are they may have the parts or know a source, even if not listed on their site.

Google up North American Clutch. They are on the IA-ILL border is all I can remember but very helpful and vast coverage. HTH Fred

You could try these people: Continental industrial engine parts distribution. Montes Equipment Co., Inc. is located in Buffalo Grove, IL and is a supplier of Engine Parts. They are highly recommended by the Oliver crowd.
