Hey Guys , Im trying to identify where cat had put the serial numbers on the grader , There is a tag on the Engine , 70D3254 , Cat does not recognize this number.

I think there was a tag under the control
box, or on the seat base. Not sure if they
were stamped under the tag, as in the case
of the crawlers

If i remember correctly as it has been almost 60 years since i was around them everyday i believe they weree a metal tag rivited to the seat support or frame . You can maybe check Ritche auction as they have a lot of info on equipment of all kinds.

Heres a non-running 12 on an online auction (going cheap, ends tonight!). Scroll through the pictures and youll see the patent data (painted over) and serial
number plate on the right front frame rail, just below and behind the steering gear assembly.

If it is a 62, it would be a 12E or 99E prefex for the SN.
He says engine has a 70D prefex which is the series before 99E. That would be 59 or a little older. 70D was made just a few years.

i remember a tag being inside the cab somewhere. Also,on the frame,in the front, aft of the front axle the number is stamped there too.Just the number there,no other info like on the tag.I took care of one for a guy I used to work for,I remember the serial number on that machine was 99E8821.That machine was direct electric start,no pony.

That would be a 64 model. They made them until 66. A 12F came out after, but was quite a bit bigger, the 120 was more like a 12E, a little more modern, but not much.

70D3254 is the SN for your machine. Back then, the engine SN matched the machine SN. It's going to be a late 50's model.

You can still get all the parts you will ever need. Your Cat dealer can't look it up in his computer system though because the parts book was never digitized. Just go to Ebay and search for a parts manual for that SN. Here's one:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/203333806306?hash=item2f57a3a8e2:g:q8UAAOSwTUBgZ6Mz

Then you can call your Cat dealer and give them the part number of what you need.
