I H 1086 3pt hitch

On a 1086, is there anyway to increase the 3pt hitch lift height besides shortening the lift arm turnbuckles all they will go ?

The chisel plow shanks just do clear the ground when it's in the up position. Scrapping the road entrances getting in and out of fields with it.

First off, check to see if it is lifting to the correct height. I don't recall for sure the exact measurement but 38 inches kind of rings a bell from center of anchor pin to center of lift link on arm.

Then look at the clearance between whatever, cab or tank and you might be able to gain some by moving lift arms one spline on rockshaft. Then you would have to reset stop if it interfered with anything.

I measured and adjusted a whole lot of all those Farmalls over the years and a lot are way off from specs. It was a part of pre delivery service and then after a repair .

If implement and tractor have more than one hole for the toplink hook the toplink as high as possible on the implement and as low as possible on the tractor.

Is there more than one place to attach the top link to either the tractor or the implement?

Here are some pictures if they load of what's going on. The lift is raised all the way up on lever. The lift yokes on rockshaft never come close to the fuel tank, and never have, like the Magnum 71xx series. Is it clocked correctly on the rockshaft ? I'm out of options on anything else as far as pinning the chisel plow up higher on the hitch. The center link is in the bottom hole on tractor end to help pitch the back up when it's raised.

Here's what my 986 hitch looks like raised all the way. The hitch balls are about 35 above the ground here while in the lowest position they are maybe 10-12 inches. I believe the 1086 has a Cat 3 hitch while the 986 is a Cat 2 but I'd think that the rockshaft geometry would be more-or-less the same.

I just looked up the lift specification on a cat three hitch which a 1086 has. It is 39-3/16 from center of draft pin (lower hitch point with grease zerk ) to the center of pin hole in end of lift arm.

Linkage is slotted to position lever and limit stop is set screw where arm enters rear cover. Your best starting points.

Thank you Pete for this info. I'm going to do something to it right or wrong. Every other tractor around here is broke down, so this one may as well be too. Sigh....

IHs didnt lift as high as a Deere. I adjusted my 1086 in every way to get it higher and the points on the V ripper still barely clear. The cultivator was a little better. My brother in law adjusted the three point way up on his 1086 and the lift piston came up out of the bore. Maybe something else was going on with his tractor to cause this.

I would say the issue is the set screw or someone before you indexed the lift arms so they would go lower. If this were an older tractor that could have come with a fast hitch (was a fast hitch an option on a 1086?)I would say someone pulled the fast hitch off and added the three point but failed to re index the lift arms. The lift arms on a fast hitch are set to a lower position and don't go as high was the lift arms on a 3 point. To get the proper lift height you have to pull the lift arms off the rock shaft and index them correctly on the rock shaft splines.

I'm definitely going to have to have
it corrected before we drag out the
Danish IH 183 cultivator or I'll
tear up every end row of corn and
soybeans trying to plow them.

The rockshaft will hit the inside of the top cover before the piston can come out of it's bore
unless something has broken or fallen apart. If a cotter key comes out it is possible for the
piston rod to fall out.

You always adjust a hitch height with no load on hitch so you can be sure it is possible to lift
the hitch manually at least one more inch so the rockshaft does not hit cover when hitch is fully
raised.

I have seen pistons come out, cover broken from rockshaft banking against them like when backing
up a semi mounted plow to clear trash out of it. Spanking new 1466 to be exact.

Also, tires catching on hitch and slamming it up and down when hitch is not being used.

I have had both hydraulic pumps replaced on this tractor with new ones when the counter shaft bearings went out that drives the main pump.

I don't if this will help/or apply to your situation per se, but on my CIH485, I reclocked the lift arms 1 spline to make it raise higher. I think it had alignment marks, but I can't remember for sure. Mark.
