Yes, it is tractor related. He jumps up on the tractor wheel and pecks my ear as I plough.

Revers Ringneck Pheasant. I see them now and then in the fall. They are shy, and dont spend much time out in wide open areas. Only time actually that I do see them is fall , and only where there are some kind of low branch type bushes with berries on them
 
Did you all know that pheasants were brought over to the US from China and the cage broke open and released them into the wild.
 
We raised and released pheasants for 4H, they were trying to establish a population in our area, never took. People would find them and shoot the poor half tame birds without giving them a chance.
 
In Iowa they are known as Chinese Ringneck Pheasants. With the shift to all row crops those birds are not as common a sight as they were sixty years ago.

100 or so acres of CRP across the road from me. Not too many years ago there was a very large flock of pheasants living on that land. Today there seems to be just one rooster, and maybe one hen. Deer population is down to almost nothing also.
 
Long time since I've seen a wild pheasant here in New England. Used to hunt them with a black lab back in the 70's.
 
A few roosters and hens were released in South Dakota in 1908.The first season to hunt them was in 1919 I think. When they were plentiful years ago you could shoot hens, but not anymore. They are a survivor for not being native. Numbers are down the last couple years but theyll rebound.
 
When I was a kid,early 1960s, they released Turkeys and Pheasants in the Deer Ridge Wildlife Area in north Missouri. The turkeys are everywhere,I have never seen a pheasant.
