Cant find my tractor.

Just where and when did you get that or is that a picture you picked up elsewhere. We haven't had that kind of weather in the whole state for as long as I can remember and that sir is a very long time!

I saw scenes like that in central Ipwa in the spring of 73. Farmers were doing early field work, mainly annydrous application. A big snow storm hit and a couple days later after I could get out on the road again I saw several tractors that looked just like that one and just the very top pf the anhydrous tank behind it. The tractors were parked behind windbreaks for shelter and they ended up buried. In those days a good majority of the tractors used in the field did not have a cab.

Ah yea well had that happen to me one time . Since i could not be at two sales at the same time and both sales had toys i wanted i called the one auctioneer that i knew pretty well and asked him about the tractors i was interested in and he told me what he knew about them . SOOOOooo i gave him what my top bid would be on each . So sale day came and i went to this other sale and my arm was getting tired from all the bargains to be had . I was also buying for my friend as he was doing the same at the sale he was at . Monday after the sale Ben called and said that i got three of the four so i told him do you want me to send a check on out and he said nah ya can give it to me when ya come and get them . That was Monday . Wednesday a big snow storm blew in and Ben calls and tells me not to be in a big hurry to come and get them tractors as they can not find them they are someplace out in the lot under 12 foot snow drifts. So i asked again ya want me to send a check out and he say well i guess . This was in Dec. , i went out the first week in April and now you could see the stacks and the steering wheels . We had to DIG them out with a W 24 case loader .

At least it's not water. I have a friend whose farm is on a hillside. He has worked some bottomland when he can. I can't remember if they were baling hay, or chopping corn, but they were harvesting feed for their cows, and left the machinery at the bottomland overnight. The next day he had a similar view as this picture, but it was water.

When I was a kid growing up in eastern Nebraska, Dad had a IH 560 diesel that he always parked on a hill north of the house. He always coasted it to start it, as he was kinda cheap to buy new batteries. After using the tractor for something one day, he parked it on the hill for the night. The next morning, all you could see was the exhaust stack, as we got pounded with a spring snowstorm. We dug the tractor out one weekend, let all the snow melt off it, then Dad got new batteries for it. In addition, we planted a windbreak north of the house so we would not get snow drifts in the yard ever again.

That storm started on [Sunday] the 8th of April.

April 8 sounds about right. I was in cedar falls visiting my girlfriend (now my wife) who was in college. I usually left for northwest Iowa when the dorm locked up at 10:00 Sunday night. Didnt make it home till Wednesday.
