New Sleeves for your John Deere

I really like the quality control, no I tech digital calipers and the original mix of materials to make the casting, just whatever he could kick in the kill. Makes one want a Mahindra tractor for sure.

One machine for each operation. Lots of people employed, working together as a team. Early part of my work life was much like that. Yes, we had better safety gear and knew the metallurgy of the parts, but you leave work at the end of the day knowing you produced something, and that has a lot of value to me. Over time , we replaced 13 lathes and mills with a 5 axis machine.

So how or why does the pot or crucible that they melt the original iron in not melt to the point of pouring. The metal inside is liquid and it is red hot but manages to stay together, is it no metal and maybe made of something else like china ?

I admire their skills, but it amazes me that they don't feel the need for hand or eye protection. At 11:30-ish, they had a bag of snacks setting there. Were they pork rinds? ;-)
I recently purchased two sets of pistons that had the Sealed Power label on them. The country of origin was probably very near to where these sleeves were made. I'll probably be looking for a different brand next time, preferably someplace a little closer to home.

They are made out of different materials depending on the application. Can use ordinary cast steel if you are pouring brass, aluminum, lead or Babbitt. For steel , on the high end, they be graphite , platinum, or combination of both. In Pakistan though, just ordinary fire clay that is good for a few pours, then make a new one. Obviously, they are very dangerous when they start deteriorating. I dont know if the crucible itself was ever made of plaster, but if you were building a home made furnace, you could definitely line the inside and the lid with plaster.

That was my first thoughts as crude as ever thing else was I was thinking maybe a ceramic or clay type, doubt they had the money for the expensive metals. In any advent one has to admire how hard they are working to produce the product.
