IH 3444 stuck in low range

I have an IH 3444 (industrial 444) that is equipped with a 4 speed high/low transmission. I bought this from my Dad several years ago. Prior to me buying it, somebody had borrowed it and they got the transmission stuck in low, the lever will not move from low at all. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Welcome bgretencord!

You might get a more specific answer down on the Farmall IH board below.

But typically, what happens is the shifter rides up and over the shift rails, locking up the shift mechanism. The usual solution is to lift the cover, or pull the shifter out, depending on the design.

Once the shifter is out of the way the rails can be slid back to the neutral position, the shifter reinstalled.

A word of caution, be sure the wheels are blocked, the clutch depressed, and all strain is off the transmission.

There is also a possibility something is broken, like a shift fork. Look things over carefully if you open it up.

But try to get some specific information before going in, I'm just guessing here...

Thank you Steve. That is what I was thinking, hoping that someone had seen this and had an easier check. I'll try the IH menu as well, still getting the hang of the forum.

All, finally had the opportunity to have this worked on. The shifter itself was stuck. Took the top cover off and found that the transmission was fine. Just the shifter stuck. Had it repaired and it works perfectly now.
