(quoted from post at 19:13:52 02/20/22) Has anybody heard of Bill Gates, buying up land in the Midwest? i just heard it today!
Bill Gates owns 242,000 acres of farmland in 19 states. Not sure if that answers your question

Here's some of his ownership numbers to chew on. Louisiana - 69,000 acres, Nebraska - 20,588 acres , Illinois - 17,940 acres, Indiana - 9,000 acres, Iowa - 552 acres. Don't know what he is doing with the acres , but in the corn belt would assume it is in crop production.

Ahh, i heard from a waitress, where i eat a lot,Thanks very much! There are 8 states that corporation farming isn't allowed, but i am sure he gets around that, and put's it Bill and Malinda Gates ! So does he rent it out?

Is it concern, yes but how much of one? According to what I find from the USDA for example the state of Nebraska has 44.9 million acres in farm production. Yes, 22 million of that is grass or range land. My point is if you put all of Bill Gates land together in one spot on a map the size of my phone screen; his land would probably be the size of a period at the end of this sentence, if that. Even around the surrounding counties of my home town Marysville, KS the owner of Landoll corporation that is based there has bought a lot of land. In that case it just elevates the price of farms because there is a bidder with deep pockets.
State of NE ag production

FFA: The reported details/information which resulted in the split proves one thing. Bill Gates isn't a whole lot different than a lot of guys .... he worships money and lusts after women .... some would say that's normal behavior.

Gates; well many shell companies owned by Gates own 69,000 + acres of Louisiana farm and timber land.
He owes or did own a multitude of other stuff like a private airport used by crop dusters.

One plantation he owns consist of 27,000 + acres.
Gates bought it from hedge fund billionaire George Soros.
George Soros bought it from former WorldCom leader Bernard Ebbers who died in prison for his shady deals.
Gates still grows crops on the fields but the particulars are well hidden.
With crop prices like they are I assume the past dealings where the former owners ran this land as a largely subsidized soybean farm might not be the case today.
But you can bet your last dollar Gates is not buying all this farm land because he likes to drive a tractor.

Crazy Horse,

If he didnt have the money no women would look at him twice. Im sure he never did well with women in his younger years. You know what attracts them now. He is a evil man.

Offutts own more than 190,000 acres of farm land, yet farmers keep going to their more than 110 stores to give them more money too.

Deere maybe, Ford was trading in the 4s in 2020, less than 25 percent of what it is today. Tech stocks are even more volatile than that.

Productive farmland is a good investment if you have the cash.

And probably this is just a start when the real buy up will happen by guys like him and China is the next time the farm economy goes in the dumper they will be there buying with their billion$.Controling the food supply would be very good for them in many ways.

The next title for a reality TV show is sadly in the works.
Americas got Surfs
A reality show in the same pattern as other hits like Americans got Talent.
Once the large enough quantities of farm land are held by wealthy investors, farmers will be little more than drugs or share croppers, unable to ever be able to own land. No one cares now, so long as there is a over abundance of cheap food, but TF is absolutely correct, once control is in the hands of investors and multi national corporations things will be very different. Ted Turner also is another major land owner in the USA

And worse they are already scheming to limit or stop people from growing their own food, the general population had better wake up and try to stop what is happening. In Virginia we just beat back a bill in the General Assembly that would have placed a lot of restrictions on direct sale and farmers markets.Control happens one small step at a time.

Vito .... so are you saying that women like to chase and trap wealthy men? Well, wadaya know ..... I always wondered why they weren't lined up to date me back in the day. Well, at least now I know the reason ..... LOL !!! As for him being evil, I would hope there are reasons for that other than being rich and chasing women, I have no idea ... never met the guy or hung out with him.

Do we need federal laws requiring land that heirs do not want to farm be put into fallow and allowed to grow up to weeds and brush to keep big money out?

Source please.

Frankly I doubt Bill Gates is PERSONALLY "buying up land" but rather his organization is. He likely has no idea it's even happening, as he has people to manage and maximze his money. HECK, I have people to manage and maximze my money.

Land is as close to a "sure thing" as you can get in the world of finance. Rich guy buying land? I would only question a rich guy NOT buying land as part of a diverse investment strategy.

(quoted from post at 16:01:16 02/20/22) I'm not going to sell mine to the LOW bidder.

If I didn't have my kids to leave it to, I would sell to the lowest bidder just to help out a young person, when I am done with it. But I have two young daughters that are very involved so it will go to them.

Foolish, because as soon as your back is turned that young person you just helped out is going to realize that he can sell your place and retire on what he makes from it. If that wasn't his scheme all along. You may as well get as much as you can for yourself if you're not going to leave it.

The last thing we need is the federal government getting involved in anything. Anything they touch is ruined.

My understanding is he is one of the inner circle funding the fake meat stuff, and trying to vertically integrate the whole new fake food craze.

That gets to be a complicated story and probably political in nature so Ill stop there.

You hit the nail on the head. He has an investment firm that is in charge of managing is wealth, they are actually the ones buying the land. It is
ironic all the people who bash him on a computer they payed for that runs his software. We don't have a windows computer in our house or work place.

During inflationary times with near zero interest rates, cash is shrinking. Land is increasing in value. So, it doesn't require a genius to see.

He seems like a nice enough guy. He's on terms with one of Warren Buffet's sons who farms in Iowa, Indiana?

I kinda doubt he puts it in Melinda's name anymore!

the man that bought my land told matter what happens if land price goes down you still own the land. if stock market goes down all you have is bunch of paper.
so he puts money ion land. when stock market crashed last time he lost a bunch of money he and his wife worked hard to get then psssssssssssst it was gone
