Today we have a 2012 GMC Acadia, 135K miles. Runs good, but had a cold start rattle due to a right bank intake cam actuator not locking on shut down. So, the powertrain is pulled to replace all the cam actuator sprockets with OE, all other timing components while it's apart, plus some maintenance (plugs, P/S hose, thermostat). Labor will come in at 13.5 hours. Total bill parts and labor will be just shy of $3K when done.

We did a Saturn last week that needed a clutch and a timing chain and did the same thing. Made a lot of sense. As a side note, I attended a Cloyes seminar this past summer and they said GM was modifying oil change service intervals on some vehicles due to component wear of the timing system. I don't understand why people buy a $50,000+ vehicle and not change the oil and filter in a timely manner.

Sad part is, this one is well maintained, just the right bank intake sprocket quit latching. I use pics like this to keep my owners of the gm R/V body SUVs using synthetic and changing oil every 5K miles, regardless of what the monitor says.

I am glad I can turn that work down : )...

I built a nice carriage to R&R FWD engines with its simple and cheap to build and works great. I would share how its done with ya... Years ago some out fit built something like this to R&R Camaro engines and transmissions with as a unit that's where I got the idea. I called the owner and told him you could change a few things and this will sale he got flaming mad I copied his work.

I understand the jack stands I did one like that its not my cup of tea...

Your work doesnt look any better than his . If I had to make
my living that way I think Id starve to death first

I have used barrels before to keep it at a more comfortable work height. I plan to build a powertrain cart this summer if I get around to it.

I made mine out of scrap, its mostly 2" square tubing, trailer hitch receivers and 3/4" acme rod/ acme nuts. The uprights are a adjustable using acme rod.

BTW don't fudge on the wheels you want it to roll nice...

When I insulated and heated my shop in 02, I used OSB on the walls and ceiling also. I was able to get it for $1 a sheet. near where I worked, they were building an office that had hardwood floors. The floors were installed before the ceiling was dry walled and they used the OSB to cover the floor so they could run power scaffolding on it and not mark up the floor I got over 100 sheets of it. Could of had more but had no where to store it. My shop was already packed when I insulated so I did 1/2 at a time. Only regret was, I didn't have time to paint it before putting everything back.
