I got some more vhs tape transferred to digital video. Loaded some of the 1992 wheat harvest to yt straight cutting durum and spring wheat. Man , that is coming up to 30 years ago. The Massey 550 is long gone but the IH Loadstar is still on the job.

1992 Harvest with Massey

Nice lineup. 1992 was a pretty bad year around here. The summer that pretty much was not. Cold and damp. Low test weight corn and if they were like today with vomitoxin a lot of corn would have taken years to sell. Blend it out with future corn to clear the bar so to speak.

That sure was a year to remember, or forget! I don't remember when we planted. But I remember building my shop that summer, and how cool it was. I cut white wheat in the drizzle, fog, mud, and picked some of it up off the ground. It didn't sprout! I had about 18 acres of canola, which Agway had promoted. We moved to this farm into a new house on Thanksgiving. I started corn harvest the next day. Corn was OK, but still about 29%. I was trucking for a local mill at the time. Movement of corn meal, cracked corn, and whole corn, wet or dry went nuts as dairy farmers found standing crap in the fields. I was combining Sun morning Dec 6 when I got word Dad had died. He had started way before me, but he still had corn in the field. The rear end, and transmission went out of my big truck and our car was on its last legs. I wasn't sure we would make it to the funeral!

(quoted from post at 17:01:15 02/17/22) In 1992 we where using two 851 pull type Massey Ferguson combines. This year this is what we used.

The old 44 and pull type look great. Used to see a few of those around here too but most combines have gone for scrap metal in recent years.
Only bad thing I recall about 1992 was we had an August frost that really hurt the grade of the wheat. Can't be sure but it likely went from a number 1 to feed.
