Welllllll It is a more highly refined version of Kerosene and burns a wee bit hotter. NOT something ya want to run in your space heater , don't ask. and not something ya want to run in your tractor or diesel pick up.

Just sayen.

Ok, thanks guy,i am living about 20 miles from a major airport,[temp] my car is under a port, but its just filthy with soot!

Sounds like you have access to military jet fuel since you are asking about J8.

Crude oil is brought to a boil and the thinner materials go to the top of the tank. About in the middle of the tank diesel is formed with kerosene above that and jet fuel above that. Then naphtha is above that followed by gasoline. I wouldn't know the ratio but you could mix jet fuel with heating oil and use that for diesel. My day was in the military and he said in an emergency you could add motor oil and gasoline to make diesel. He said the trucks wouldn't run as good but wouldn't hurt them.

It would have to be a heck of an emergency because putting the wrong fuel in a military vehicle will get you a court martial and a dishonorable discharge.

i have been under the impression that jet fuel is about the same as tractor fuel from early days of tractors. I could be wrong.

My dad was career military. Mixing gas and oil was something he as trained to do. It's like if the enemy was coming and they had gas and oil but no diesel they could get the trucks on the road by making some homemade diesel. He didn't tell me the formula though.

JP-8 is the military equivalent of Jet-A. Jet-A is the standard fuel used in civilian turbine engines, and is very similar to kerosene. And kerosene is very similar to #1 diesel.

The military 'multi-fuel engines', most commonly used in 2 1/2 ton trucks, could be fueled with a mixture of one quart of 30 weight motor oil per five gallons of gasoline or any grade of diesel fuel. I remember when there was a delay in getting these trucks. One of our large manufacturers was having a problem in the development of it. Some German scientist/engineers came over to help and the problems were solved in right short order.

If youre 20 miles from the airport, arriving jets are going to be at 6000 feet or higher. Current turbines burn much more efficiently than the old 727 or DC9 days (no more smoke trails), so I seriously doubt the airport is the culprit.
