Stuck Farmall B update

Bought the tractor in Dec. Finally got it in the barn. Took valve cover off. It was ugly in there. Pulled head, cylinders looked good. Pulled starter off just to make sure it wasn't the issue. Nope still stuck. Got the bbq grill out, fired it up and got a pan full of transmission fluid hot, poured it in over the pistons, had a front wheel weight hanging on the hand crank, with in 5 minutes the motor turned over! Got the head soaking in a tub of vinegar. It's gonna run again!

24 hours in vinegar, made a huge difference! Can't wait to see the head. Had 5 stuck valves

granpa love,

I use vinegar on every rusted item there is around here. Your photos are spot on for getting things cleaned up. Nice work.

I always thought was molasses was the cure all for rust. I had a motorcycle tank full of rust I filled it with vinegar. Took the rust down to bare metal. Stan

Awesome news, so much thanks for sharing that info.

I have never used vinegar for this. Did you have to fill the whole tank? How long did it take?
I have an 8N tank with some rust in it and will try the vinegar. I ordered two gallons of 45% and will use that.
Educate me a bit please.
Thanks, Tom/Idaho

Tom if you were to use phosphoric acid instead of vinegar you would be performing two jobs at once. The acid will dissolve the larger rust, and the rust that is firmly attached still will get converted to iron phosphate which is the protective coating on your impact wench sockets.
