Mud dobbers

Working on a Farmall Super C and decided to check out the starter. The band was in place so they had to fly into the bell housing and then into the starter drive. Wish I could be this industrious!

I have been fighting those things. For over forty years. Working on generators and fighting wasp. The nest can do allot of damage.

We have leaf cutter bees in the area. Alfalfa seed growers use them
to pollinate the plants. I have an IHC MD and W-6 I have to clean the
distributers every year because they like to pack all their cuttings in there.

My brother had a pond about 50 yards from his barn and shop where dobbers made mud pies to stuff his things. Over the years they made nests in place you would never expect. Brother threw a #@&%$# fit and swore war ever time they messed something else up. One day he noticed 24 pond overflow pipe was covered in water and not flowing. Looking from dam,it didn't appear trash had lodged around intake but when he got near as possible to outlet below dam without wadding mud,he could see pipe was capped with mud. After ranting about dobbers for 2 days he finally put wadders on and went to see if he could bust the nest out with a wrecking bar. Eventhough beaver had never been seen within 20 miles before,he recconized tracks and saw stumps of small trees they had fell.

Yep, they can cause some unusual problem!

Not just mud dobbers, there is another little hovering bee that likes to go around plugging every round hole it can find!

I tried to plug a battery charger in on the west wall of my garage, all four receptacles plugged with mud.

Yeah that little guy that drives its wings like a Humming Bird. I don't think mud dobbers even stop to eat....have to sleep because it gets dark. Really do a good job of getting in little nooks and crannies and ruining everything into which they can squeeze. I used to leave my shop doors open in the summer but no more.

Their navigation system is something to be admired....kind of like a homing beacon once they setup on a location. It has to be some sort of beam as I have deliberately blocked their route and they would go out of their way to get around the blockade and get back on the beam.
