This is from a Case manual but still valuable information for those of us who plow for work or play.

I will add to this PSA with these 3 pictures. The top Plow share picture is the newer style Throw away share that newer plows use. The one in the picture is what is colloquially known as a stub or Rock share because it has a blunt nose/point.

The bottom plow share is the older blacksmith style share that has a long point/nose which can be re-pointed by a blacksmith (if you can find one). These typically have better suction in the soil and a lighter draft (pull).

Great information from a company that had one of the best plows during the 1950's into the 1960's, IMHO. A Case plow would bury sweet clover that was allowed to bloom as it was being used to add to both nitrogen to the soil and to be plowed under and then used as green manure.

My Brother-in-law's Dad convinced My Dad to switch to Case plows, mostly replaced an IH 4F-43 4-14 Fast Hitch plow with a 4-14 trailing Case plow because the MidWest plow harrow wouldn't work on the Fast Hitch plow but worked great on the Case trailing plow. Dad traded the Case 4-14 for a Case 5-14 when he bought the 4010 Deere, then removed the back bottom so we could run faster than 1st or 2nd gear. With a fresh M&W overhaul and somebody that actually KNEW what they were doing inside a RoosaMaster injection pump it was making 100-105 hp and plowed in 4th or 5th gear till it blew a head gasket one Saturday morning.
Having plowed mostly with an IH #8 3-14 and plugged up in corn stalks A HECK of a lot the Case plows seldom plugged up. I'd like to find a 2 or 3 bottom trailing plow to take to local plow days, and it would either be an IH #60 or a CASE.

Acroynyms show up again, and a good reminder for your PSA blood tests ..... Prostate Specific Antigen. Shrug it off if you want but I'd say it's important for the YT crowd to pay attention to. Thanks for the reminder ....

Worked for my brother-in-law when I was in high school. He had a 5-16 Case plow with one coulter only and an R John Deere. I plowed Sweet clover under that was as high as the tractor and it may have only plugged a couple times in 15 acres as I remember.

I had a 4-14 Case plow an it was fair to middling. It bucked uphill well. The best plow I ever tried was a 3-14 Minneapolis Moline. I never saw an Oliver.
