Do any of you have the LS tractor ,been looking at a MT225HE it has a 24.6 HP engine ,it has the synchro shuttle transmission , the dealer wants 16500.00 , for a small garden of 1 acer what do you guys think

Not an LS expert, but if trying to hit a budget number, for
yard and garden work, Id give up some HP in trade for a
hydrostatic transmission.

I'm cheap.
I looked for an old garden tractor.
I found a GT275 garden tractor. 30 inch tiller 48 inch mower.
$1500. Wish I could find another GT275. I would leave the tiller
on it

The old craftsman mower has a standard transmission. I put bar
tires on it. Makes a great little garden tractor.

I'm too cheap and don't feel I would spend $16.5k to take care
of one acre.
I bought my mom's Farmall C for $1500. Great 72 inch mower to
take care of 2 acre yard and mow lower yard in gravel pit.
Used terramites are around $10-12K.

For $16.5k you can buy all my yesterday's tractors.

Are you buying a new LS from an LS dealer or is it an "orphan" on some other brand dealer's lot? If it's a tradein it was traded in for a reason, and it's NEVER the one the salesman claims.

How do you prepare the soil in your garden? If by rototiller for the first-pass, a hydrostatic transmission is almost a MUST. Gear drive can't go slow enough to get a good mix with the tiller, unless it has a creeper gear. I know a lot of guys will say they run their tiller just fine but they're tilling loose soil that's been loosened up with a plow and disc.

Wife and I looked at LS, Kubota, JD,
Branson. We bought a Massey Ferguson
last week. It joins our Farmall Cubs,
they cut grass and work the garden. And
2 Ford 900 tractors. They do the bush
hogging, fence stretching and box blade
work. LS was our first choice. They
lost out when we found out it would be
a couple months on delivery.

I have a Mahindra that I am happy with, even though OLD says they suck.
I would not buy the shuttleshift. Wait and find a Hydrostatic.
Also do not buy a mid mount mower. Pain in the butt to install and remove, tractor is useless for any other purpose while mower is insalled.

GP,
Happy you pulled the trigger and bought a loader/hoe.
You will be surprised how much your CPA can write off your taxes.
Still waiting to see this girl do a little workout.

George. Good looking garden tractor. Wish I could find a good runner like yours just for the same purpose. Thanks for the post. Wingnut

I think that's a big investment for a 1 acre plot.

Unless you just have the bug for a new tractor, it could be done for a whole lot less.

Possibly as per below.?

LS Tractors
Organization
LS Tractors is an engineering company. It is a division of LS Cable in South Korea. The group was originally part of the LG conglomeration, and was known as LG Tractors and LG Cable, respectively. LS is associated with Mitsubishi tractors of Japan for technology, and many tractors are based on Mitsubishi designs, as well as use Mitsubishi engines. LS also imports New Holland Ag tractors to resell as LS-New Holland.. LS currently builds tractors for Montana Tractors for sale in North America; and for sale under their own name as of 2009. They used to build for Farmtrac, a division of Escorts Agri of India, for sale in North America; and for TAFE Tractors of India also for sale in North America

If the LS tractor is simply a rebadged New Holland it will be as good as any New Holland. If,
however, as part of the rebadging, features or parts are changed or modified then it will be as
good as the parts that are changed or modified.

It sounds like this is a similar deal as the Ford County tractors following WW2. They bought
Fords and modified them to make them 4WD. Some parts were available from Ford, others were
County specific.

If you are going to buy a new machine, my advice is to buy a name brand tractor with good dealer
support near you. In the US that would probably be Kubota, JD, MF, CNH etc. I wouldn't buy an
LS machine.

If you are interested in used vs new there are a lot of options available at a far cheaper price.

The LS tractor I looked at is a new one ,it is at a Massey Ferguson dealer, they sell the LS also , but it does not have New Holland on it , I would use it for garden , yard work and to get fire wood ,I have a ford 1100 but it is getting hard to find parts for ,I also have a ford 4000 but it leaves big tracks when in the yard , it is my plow and box blade tractor ,the 1100 works my tiller ,it will be the one I am trading ,what would be a good tractor to replace it

I have run a freinds LS 225 in hydrostatic version several hours. Its a nice tractor and plenty strong for its size. I put 25 of the 35 hours it has on it with no problems. Hers has the r4 tires, loaded, and a grapple. It will pick up pine logs 10 - 12 inches diameter at the base and 25 foot long all day.

IF the price were right I would buy another gt275 and put another motor on it.
BTW, it is the easiest riding mower on my back.

I have a 33 hp LS that I bought new in 2012. It gets used nearly every day in a commercial vineyard from February to mid October.
So far, it has been bulletproof.
Also, LS makes utility size and smaller NH, Farmall, and Case IH, not the other way around.

If you are thinking about a so called off brand tractor look for one that is lightly used as the resale value is low since they don't have a cult following like JD and Xbota.

This is cheap. I bought two junk tractors and a junk tiller in about 1980. One had a junk hydro and tires but a nice mower and a 50 hour 14 hsp. Kohler eng.., the other one just had a transmission and tires. I replaced all the brgs. and seals in the tiller plus a lot of internal cobbling but it all still works. Got about 300 bucks in it.

If all you want to do with it is till 1 acre I'd look at a dedicated tiller- preferably a BCS. It will till the garden and then till between the rows. If walking is the issue, that's different.

They are NOT rebadged New Holland tractors.

In the US, LS tractors are made by LS.

If you read the description they IMPORT New Holland tractors (TO INDIA) where they are sold as LS-New Holland.
