I have never seen a post here about Deutz. I know of a couple in my area and wonder why they are so unpopular.
 

I see posts for them regularly, but probably only every other month or so. They are of course imported and never really caught on except in a few areas.
 
I have two Deutz Tractors, love them, they are ugly, but run great, am always looking for another. Like most they have their good points, and weak points.
 
I repaired MANY Duetz tractors in my shop years ago after the local dealership closed. The older ones are almost bomb proof other than weak in the foot brake department. I have seen MANY with 10,000 hours and still not using oil and with great oil pressure. The ZF drivelines are second to nobody world wide. They never did have a good cab back then, but other than Deere who did? Once they built the DX series it was like a death sentence. Deutz thought they could build their own drivelines and stop using ZF. They sold more DXs than any series before. The DX160 was its highest seller. Its tranny was also the worst. One angry customer makes a lot of noise. That's when things started to slide in the US. Then came the Deutz Allis mess. Whole other story. Al
 
A guy just east of me collects them and farms with them. He's got one that he likes to talk about,I don't remember the model,but he thinks it's the only one in the US.

Another neighbor bought a new 100-06. He had transmission/rear end trouble with it right from day one. It was in the shop for so long that to be honest,I had forgotten that he even bought it until they finally brought it back. When he got it home,right off the bat,he was headed over to another farm when it started making noise. He stopped in the road,took the fill cap off and smoke was coming out of the transmission. They finally got it fixed,but when he traded it off on a new Allis 7000,the drawbar was held on with a log chain and binder.
 
Could someone please tell me the YEAR, each one of these Deutz Tractors was MANUFACTURED??????

I had one for over 30 years great on fuel the only draw back parts will put you in the poor house expensive is an under statement even use the price is high.
 
Dad tried one out in 1976. Don't know what model but it was 40 hp ? I didn't think much of it ? He went with an Allis Chalmers 5040 I never liked that tractor. I think he is fond of the color orange. But after running John Deere utility tractors of that era on my uncles farm nothing else can compare to them ! I forget how much more a JD 2040 cost over the Allis. But it sure would of been worth it.
 
My brother has one. he's drug the thing all the way across the USA out to the state of Washington. I've never heard him complain about it. He bought it new...
 
I have both a deutz 4006 40 hp that i use mainly to cut hay and an allis chalmers 5040 that I rake and move hay with. Both good and reliable for me and sip diesel.
 
I have a 1978 D6806 68 HP Lots of hours and runs great....don't like to start below 40 degrees though. It is my loader tractor.
 
The 06 Series are about bulletproof. I know a dairy farmer who has a 10006 with 24,000 hours on it. Brought it in to a local repair shop and they pulled the head and did the top end at 15,000 hours. Still works excellent, but he religiously changes oil every 100 hours.

One of the top tractor pullers in Wis has a room full of trophys with his 06 Series. He says they will tolerate up to 800 hp with no transmission or rear end problems. Not the case with the DX Series however.

There are still a lot of 06 Series used in Wis and a couple of dealers who specialize in them.

If you keep the engine clean and serviced, they are probably one of the most fuel efficient tractors. I had a DX-130 back in the 80s and pulling 5-18 you could not burn 5 gallons per hour. Only engine I have ever seen where you could run it all day and run the dipstick thru your fingers.

As was mentioned above, this series was not equal to 06, however I would not hesitate to purchase a machine with a Deutz Engine.
 
I live off post my 2nd tour at Ft Riley. The guy next door was a sales rep IIRC for the IH dealer. We'd talk tractors sometimes. He claimed that the biggest problem was convincing people that the air cooled engines were good engines. I'd seen em in Germany and when I got back all of a sudden they were in the US.

New small town AC dealer added Deutz line to his inventory. I recall air cooled, twin cylinder, tomato worm green and black paint. Didn't last long. Reason....couple of assumptions: Only 2 cylinders for moderate size tractor, noisy, unknown brand, lack of parts and adequate service maybe, family brand loyalty......."well my great-great-grandpappy drove a Ford and by God I'm gonna drive one too thing".

I have a Deutz 4060 that began loosing diesel fuel into the crank case. I spoke w Walt at Dr Deutz site. He assured me it was an injector prob, not blown rings. The injector was taken off and upon quick look an injector shop said it was tight. Now Walt is not there. His son(?) says its a blown engine. Should I get new opinion on injector? Thanks
 

You should start a new post of your own about this and lay out all the history and details of [u:5127314c8c]your[/u:5127314c8c] problem, to get the best information.

This site uses two formats, Classic and Modern. Modern brings a post, like this one, to the top when a reply to it is made, as your reply did to this one. In this case people using classic see the original post as well as your post. Time frame of the original post doesn't matter.

In the Classic format a post stays "in place", it does not move to the top. After a certain time, the only thing people using Classic will see is your post alone, as "Re: Deutz Tractor", none of the original post will show. So, the answers one gets can be good or they can be unrelated to an actual problem or meaningless.

It looks like they were popular at one time in Iceland. When you see an old tractor parked around to look at it's often a Deutz. They use Fendt and some other tractor I can't think of right now. Zetors are very popular there, too. Here's some yard art from the town of Keflavik, where the big airport is.

Sheep are the big four-legged crop in Iceland, hence the need for a lot of mowing equipment to keep them fed in winter. Otherwise they are free range in summer, they're allowed to roam everywhere.

And a Deutz Allis, at least some of them, had Oliver drivetrains. The 9150 I tried to buy at an auction a couple years ago had a Deutz engine and hood, Oliver 3-speed over-under, transmission, and rear end, with a White "hexagon" cab. I thought it was an interesting mad scientist project, but it ended up bringing crazy money. Main clutch was out, over-under was out, 3pt lower link balls were pulled right out the ends of the arms, turbo was falling apart... It was a train wreck, a $2500 tractor. Brought $7500. Then it sold again at the next consignment sale and brought $9500 and I'm sure they did nothing to it.
